Day 30
Not perfect every time

Really struggling with these Orchids and lighting. What I need is some good old fashion sunlight. Been playing with this for a couple of days on and off. Can't get what I want, going to have to revisit this one.

Pretty Orchid. What if you move them around until you get better lighting? Near a window?

This is outside on the porch under cloudy skies, Chris is holding a black mat behind it. Everything around me is white. Seems white is the popular color for houses around me, too. Speaking of white, we are under a Blizzard Watch fro the next 48 -72 hours, By Thursday we might have 12-18 inches. A good snow for us is 4-6, so you know what I'm going to be posting the next few days. We were going to do a road trip about 30mins from home on Wednesday but canceled that. I found out that not far from here we have Eagles nesting & flying on riverbank. I was hoping to get some photos for Freestyling, but that's out now. If I can get out we have snowmobile trails in the north side of town. Might see if I can do something with that.

These Orchids are turning into a mission, I'll get it. This is how I learn. Here are some others I took inside and out doing different things. All about the same results.

Day 31
Careful what you wish for.

Well looks like Mother Nature is going to take a dump on us here in North Central Illinois. Latest forecast at 3:00pm Central time is:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM CST TUESDAY TO 3 PM CST WEDNESDAY. THE BLIZZARD WARNING REPLACES THE BLIZZARD WATCH. (Great)

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF A FOOT ARE EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF THE WATCH AREA FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. LOCALIZED TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 18 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE (Are you kidding me?)

WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT (Hey now, I work nights) AS VERY HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. SNOWFALL RATES OF AT LEAST 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS (Wait, thunderstorms? is this winter or spring?)

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL SO HEAVILY AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT THAT PLOWS MAY BE UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE SNOW (What a bunch of wimps. Come on, we need some real men to drive those plows)

Love the orchid (not orchard) shots, Rick! :) And the Snowmeter....lol........good one! :)

We jst came out of our snow storm here in Calgary. Snowed steady Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday. Had over a foot of new snow to what was already on the ground. Now it's just freezing cold..... -27C

The high ISO doesn't seem to have hurt this shot, Rick. On the contrary, it seems to have added to the overall effect. I think it's a great shot. Keep up the good work, bud. :)

I really like the one on bottom left. You've got some nice lighting there.

Yes I like the one on the bottom left because of the lighting, but the shot is not set up right. Need to move around a little in it to balance it out. Second day in a row I've taken the exact same shot, setting it up twice. I like how it's backlit and you can see through the Orchid, but it's too much light and brings out the white too much. Have tried difusing the lighting on all three lights and not much luck. I did go out and buy some lower watt bulbs for my DIY lighting and we are going to play with that. I'm close, just have to find the right combination of light power and placements on the lights. Once I get it everything will be fine. Here's a photo of my starting point, a basic three light set up. On a side note, Chris is really enjoying working downstairs "In the Studio" with me. Once we get it set right I expect to see her working down there, too, on her own. She has some great ideas.

nice shot! Is that at walmart?

Always, what would be your first clue? LOL Scary part about day 32 I did it two shots. One was the whole machine the second was a close up. I don't have luck with fluorescent lighting so I very happy I pulled this one off in just two shot. Taken with Chris's Coolpix S6000.

Day 33
"The Blower"

My neighbor blowing his driveway. Stopped snowing about 7 hours ago, still hard to get around, however I was out in my Mustang. As long as you keep moving everything is fine until you stop LOL. Plows have only been by once. Was very hard to drive and shoot anything, so I had to settle on something close to home.
