Snow White
Really great shot, Axeman . . . Love the pattern and shallow depth of field. Excellent work!

Good for you, Jack! Nice work . . . what are the treats in your dispenser and how much do you have to put in to get one?

Day 8
Sky Blue Waters

SUNSHINE; got out in it today. Funny thing about this photo, as I adjusted the white balance for snow the bluer the water got. This is a happy medium of either not enough white balance that the snow is off or so much white balance it blows out the water with too much blue. But I liked the effect The water could almost pass for an HDR. I should of thought of that when I was shooting, I've been tinkering with HDR but 19^ and very windy you tend to forget about those things. The only thing I could think of was Helene and her fingerless gloves LOL.

This is awesome! I love it. I was thinking of Helene and her fingerless gloves this evening while I was taking my pictures too!

At least you and Jen got out of the vehicle to take the photo. I shot one yesterday, night shot, using the window of my truck to brace my camera and had the engine running to stay warm . . . then I blamed the lens and the PP software for the fuzzy photos LOL

Great photo, Axeman, I love how the river curves through the pic.

Sometimes, simplicity has a beauty all its own. THIS is that time. Nothing extraneous is interfering with this shot.
NO stray animal life or tree branch crossing into the shot. Not even a stray weed!

This shot epitomizes how wonderful a simple composition really can be.

Axe, ya done good my friend.

Day 9
I need horsepower

Found this little gem in a basement of a local Museum. Two obnoxious fluorescent lights above and to the right of the Buggy killed this shot, had to crop it tight to kill the one right above the buggy and turning it into B/W helped with the one on the right. I also added a rounded boarder to help hide the tight crop on the top and text bottom to fill in the empty space left from the crop trying to keep a balance. I think it gives it that "Old Time Look" and takes you back into time.

Done in Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Day 10
Down and Dirty

Ok, so I wake up this afternoon (I work 3rd shift) and my wife Chris says, "So Mr. photographer, what are you going to go out and shoot today, Ya run out of ideas yet?" Looking at her with a long glaring pause while sipping my morning coffee, I replied, "I don't know, maybe I'll go down to the cemetery and see what I can dig up." Well guess where I went? Yes. I lay down on the ground in the middle of winter getting this shot. "Down and Dirty"

Why thank you, Helene. :) Those are English mints in there, and the machine takes a penny. :) Help yourself.

Day 11
Oh nuts

Oh nuts, that ugly white stuff reared it head again so outside activity was limited to shoveling. Back to indoor shots. Today photo is inspired by Pete's 365 photo. You will excuse me now it time for some quality control on this subject matter.

Day 12
"Twilight"

It's my Friday and I'm totally lazy today, come on weekend. So here's a quick picture of my cat "Twilight" we got her before the movie came out. She got her name because we have another black cat named Midnight, and Twilight is a little lighter in color than Midnight.

Day 13
Oasis

Words I'm beginning to hate Clouds, Snow, White balance, Brightness, and Contrast. Post editing was more of an challenge than finding the picture itself. I didn't want to take the easy way out and turn it B/W because after yesterdays lame photo I promised myself I do better today.

I didn't think your photo yesterday was lame. I like how you got Twilight in a nice pose, the detail of the fur is nice too. Today's photo is nice too, it's a strange, foreign contraption, but I like it.

I was in the basement playing with spider webs and sun light, she was at the top of the stairs waiting for me to come back up and was talking to me, just started taking pictures and got lucky I guess. As for the fur, could have more detail in it still had on my new Prime 35 f/1.8 lens. I have had it on for about three weeks now, but I get more detail with her when I use the stock 18-55mm.

The foreign contraption your asking about is a hand pump water fountain, somewhat common in the Chicago suburban forest preserves where I originally come from. That's how I know what it is and how it works. The pump handle has been removed for the winter freezing months or the pump itself is broken. The idea is, you or a friend pumps the handle up and down and it pumps water up from the well below. The round thing on the right is a little sink that drains into the second pipe, that drains into the drain at the very bottom of the photo.

Where the photo was taken is one of my favorite places to shot Lightning, it is out in the middle of no where about five miles out of town, ok five miles out of my town in any direction is the middle of no where but that is beside the point. The boring flat lands of Illinois lol
