Day 17
What's cooking?

Snow, Sleet, Freezing rain, and Rain has driven me back in side again. So tired of this stuff, can't remember the last time I saw the sun. Well just finished shoveling and putting salt down, think I'll head inside and see what's cooking.

This is only the third serious attempt I've done with HDR in Photoshop CS5 HDR Pro. I don't care for the blown out look HDR sometimes gives however I do like using it to bring highlights out. Like in this case the Gas burner, the silver on the pan, and the black on the stove.

Went for a walk in the woods yesterday and took this one from under a snow covered branch. A few seconds after the shot, the wind blew and all the snow fell. I'm really happy with the D7000 image quality. Creamy colors.

Day 18
Star Trek Style
"Dimples" is back today and not by my choice. He did everything for this photo, all I had to do is change lens and take the picture. The story goes, I had an idea for an indoor shot, because you know it the weather outside stinks. The shot is going to involve everyone helping me to set it up. Me and my wife were talking about it and "Dimples" came up to us and said, "Why don't you take a picture of this and call it Star Trek Style. Well I can't tell him no, and I think someone likes his picture taken like mother. So here is Star Trek Style, by "Dimples"

Once again, shot one handed holding card stock in front of the on board flash for bounce. "Major Upgrade(s)" coming in less than four weeks can't wait. Can't tell you, it going to be one of my daily photos when they all come in.

Not a bad shot at all, Rick. Colour looks good, a little fuzzy in the front, but not all that bad. Well focused on "Dimple's" face......background bokeh is good. Nothing wrong here. Move along, please. ;)

Still trying to learn this prime lens very touchy at times I'm learning. Yes I didn't like the fact that the blocks are out of focus. One shot he's in focus and the blocks are out of focus, the next the blocks are in focus and he's out of focus. I have to use auto focus because I wear glasses, and even with the adjustment on the viewfinder I can never get anything to focus by hand. As you know I'm fighting lighting issues, wished there was more light on the top of his head, and skin tone look a little red to me now after post editing. But this is a learning experience, and I'm learning, thanks for the comments

good shot, and I like that you call him "dimples"

"Dimples" is really Lucus, one of four (all boys) stepchildren I have. Ranging from the ages of 10 to 16. We don't call him dimples, just a tag he's gotten here on my posts, You have to have a sense of humor to live in my house, we all are a bunch of jokesters and at times we tag each other with names on and off, and right now he's "Dimples" LOL

Day 19
Before

Part of project 365 that I have read is you can go back and look at the year in pictures. I had a shot planned out for today, but how soon we forgot that Thursday is my wife's out patient surgery with the Plastic Surgeon for her skin cancer under her eye. Posting this is her choice and she wants it to be part of my 365 project. Up until about a year ago she loved to have her picture taken, but after her cancer started to turn a darker color, (unknown at the time) she asked that I Photoshop it out. The photos and the surgery is a giant step for her coming to terms with yet another illness, and perhaps an illness that might change her permanent looks. To safely remove the cancer they have to remove the size of a quarter from under her eye then lift tuck and whatever to make it look normal. She may need more surgery afterwards to finish anything that may not look right after she heals. This is not an attempt to gross anyone out nor are we looking for a pity party, just a very important day in our lives and we thank you for letting us share a look into our personal life. I will be doing a 365 photo on Thursday, but may be posting late. No need to comment back, we know that we have all your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks in advance
Rick & Christine

(For those who don't know, my pictures are crossed posted on Facebook & Nikonites.com, so my comments are written to fit both sites)

Day 20
"After" (1 of 2)

I've been up just about 24 hours now, up all night working then off to the Hospital. Well after 1 1/2 hours of surgery and over thirty stitches later, Doc says he got it all. Outside of follow up visits for the surgery, no other treatments should be needed. One thing Doc feared was she may wind up with a droopy eye from the surgery, but post surgery showed no droopy eye and right now it is not a concern. Bandages will stay in place till they fall off or Doc will take them off when we see him again in two weeks. Total healing time is six months, and at that time "After" 2 of 2 will be posted. Chris has been a real trooper through this and says she feels fine. Of course she's in pain, but she says she's glad it's over and is ready to move on. I've been checking posts and messages on and off all day via my I-Touch and will follow up with everyone on Friday when I have time (it's my weekend Thursday and Friday nights) right now we're both off to bed for some well needed rest. It's been a very long day for both of us. Tomorrow we crank back up Project 365 and get away from all this serious stuff.

Rick, that's a hell of a woman ya got there, bud. It's so great that you both have such a positive attitude about the whole thing. From what I can see from the photos, I have a feeling she'll be just fine, with no after effects. She looks like a good healer to me. :) I wish you and Christine well, bud. :)

Day 21
What's playing tonight at the Matchbox Imax Drive-in?

I'll save you the trouble. There's about 85 cars use here, don't forget the high speed Police chase under the screen.

This shot was done in the dark, only using the light from the TV screen to light up the cars. I'm getting these great ideas for shots but having a hard time getting the vision in my head into a photo. This is not exactly what I had in mind but pretty close. At least I got the lighting I was looking for coming from the TV.
