WreckDiver1321's daily photo thread

Never get too picky on a daily shot. There were times when I took a shot of something random for my daily. I figure I got my shot in, no matter what the subject was. With very little time in my day, you might get a shot of my pinky toe.

That is very good advice. We have all been there. Clayton may photograph is pinky toe, I will photograph opportunistic feline photos. Chill out, relax, and enjoy the experience. Not every photograph will be salon quality or composition. Sometimes, they are just grab shots.

My fiance got pretty sick last night, so I've spent most of the day taking care of her. That means I'm stuck around the house. I was able to capture a couple of nice shots though. I'm trying to concentrate on looking at things I see all the time from a different viewpoint.

Here's our little dog, Scarlett.

And I was sitting on the couch when I looked up at the cross on our wall, which is made of old barrel slats. I grabbed the camera and got this.

Also, here's my attempt at a product shot. It's my new tripod! It's a Sunpak Pro 423PX, which is a carbon fiber tripod with a ball head. It's a very light tripod, which is great for me because I do a lot of hiking and moving around in rough terrain. The legs are pretty sturdy, but I doubt the head will hold a very heavy camera setup. Luckily my D3100 and lenses are light. Once I move up to a D7100 I'll need to buy a new tripod, probably a Manfrotto BeFree, but for now this will work. It was only $100, so I'm not complaining. It's sturdy enough to do the long exposures I took the other night without camera shake. I'm happy with it for now.

I went out on a walk around my neighborhood today. It's an old neighborhood, with homes dating back over 100 years. It was a big spot for immigrants. Unfortunately, it's now a bit of a lower class, low budget neighborhood. Some of the homes are really run down. This is bad for home values but great for photography. Luckily, the area is being built up and revitalized. I ended up getting some really great shots. I'm trying to concentrate on not cropping as much as possible.

This old church is actually now a sort of small apartment building. It's really dilapidated and run down. Makes for a great subject though.

Haha I'm not sure I'd call them "urban"... more like suburban. :) I don't even think the big city near me is technically urban. It's Montana, nowhere is ;)

On my next road trip I am going to stop and get photos of every little country church I pass. Some small communities in West Virginia will sometime have 3 or 4 churches and many are quite fascinating.

Well, I'm continuing with my "around my neighborhood" theme today. I went for a walk and grabbed some shots of things that I see on an every day basis. It's pretty interesting what shots you can find in a small, old town. There's a lot of old and interesting buildings, namely (strangely) people's garden sheds.

Oh man! I went out for a hike in a local park and proved just what Nikon's 18-55mm non VR kit lens can do. Tried my hand at some landscapes, as well as a few other hidden gems where I hiked. I've come up with a great new technique! Hike until you're tired, find something to photograph, grab some cool shots, have a drink, continue hiking. It worked out well for me. I'm also starting to get my landscape technique dialed in. I got a lot of good ones today!

;) Than that post did it's job! I'm planning on getting one as soon as I can afford it. I've had the chance to use one, and I just love it. Couple that with the lenses I'm looking at getting... I'm gonna need to get a loan hahaha

No! Come to the dark side. Come to FX. Everything is bigger over here. Even the cookies.....

And the price tags! No thanks, I'm building up a solid DX system, and the image difference between the D7100 and D610 is so negligible that I can't justify it. Plus, the D7100 can go to a higher shutter speed, has a better autofocus system, and supports interval timer shots. The D7100 is all the camera I'll ever need, and I'll already have lenses for it! :D

I bought the D7100 just a month ago coming, like you, from a D3100... I loved the 3100, but the 7100 is a totally different beast! I got mine (Body only) as a Japanese "Grey" import, so saved around £200 on UK prices, and couple that with selling the D3100 for £160 (Body only), the jump to the D7100 wasn't as financially painful as I first expected! Of course, with having a Japanese import, if it goes wrong it will have to go back to Japan but the retailer gives a 1 year returns warranty so pick up the cost.
