Oh man! I went out for a hike in a local park and proved just what Nikon's 18-55mm non VR kit lens can do. Tried my hand at some landscapes, as well as a few other hidden gems where I hiked. I've come up with a great new technique! Hike until you're tired, find something to photograph, grab some cool shots, have a drink, continue hiking. It worked out well for me. I'm also starting to get my landscape technique dialed in. I got a lot of good ones today!

They certainly are good ones. Well done and keep hiking.

I like your shots, and the variety of them. Great job. BTW, I want a D7100 also. Maybe some day :)

Thanks guys! I am really happy with what I came up with yesterday, it was certainly a great day for shooting. I'm constantly trying to shake things up a bit, so I can "expand my horizons."

I had a bunch of homework and house cleaning to attend to, so I just took a walk around my house to see what I could get.

A bit of a peek at what's in the garage...

And a bit of a peek at what's next to the garage...

Thoughts?

Lots of good photos today! It was the nicest day out we've had in a long time. Great light, puffy clouds, blue skies. It was a perfect opportunity for landscape shots. I found a great scenic spot, set up the tripod, and started snapping away. Sadly, I didn't change the ISO from 800, where it was last night. The shots I got were a little overly noisy but not too bad. After I got done there, I walked around downtown a bit. Came up with some pretty good stuff.

I've noticed this guy several times in town before. He's a homeless guy that wanders around. He's very photogenic, and I've been trying to snap a good shot of him for a while. Finally got one! I promise I'm not a stalker hahaha

Not a lot happening today. It was warm, but really windy. And I was completely out of ambition for the day, so I slightly arranged what was already just sitting on the table. Here's what I got:

So... much... rain...

It's been raining since early this morning out here so as you can imagine, there weren't too many photo ops. I managed to pull two good shots out of it though.

This is what happens when you have a non weather sealed camera. You set up the tripod in front of the open back door to the house and use a long zoom to capture shots in the back yard.

Lots of good shots today. The weather was a little chilly, but I was able to get some pretty cool ones. I just went for a drive to see what I could get. I've been messing with creating a "faded film" effect in Lightroom, and I kind of like what it does for certain shots. I adjusted the tone curve so that the maximum black point was higher up and the max white point was lower down. I also added a bit of an S curve to add contrast. Thoughts?

Also, I've been doing a little tone mapping.

And I just like this shot.

Nice shots!! I quite like the old film effect you've put on those first 2 :) I just love that old wagon with bits of everything on it. It's really interesting and it's a nice clear colourful shot you've taken. All cool :D

Thanks! I saw examples of the film effect recently and I just wanted to try it myself. I can definitely see myself using it more under certain situations.
