Congrats on being cigarette free for over 12 hours. This will be a great birthday present YOU give to the love your life!! When you get a craving, try nibbling on a carrot or a pencil or go take a photo or go somewhere you're not allowed to smoke!!

Keep your chin up Bill, remember you are getting free every smoke-free breath you take. Just think of the newly gained freedom every time a craving comes around. Soon enough you'll be way better and you'll at last enjoy your D700 :)

Well I've completed over 5 hours today since I woke up without a cigarette, and only have 6 hours to go to complete the first 24 hours! I think it has eased up a tiny bit since I began this effort, but not by much. Well all I can do, is to do my best to keep my willpower up! :)

Well my friends, I've now finished day one of my new smoke-free life and have started day two! I hope day two is easier than day one was! Lol :)

You can only quit if you want too. If you can smoke more cigs before you give up you don't truly want too.

I went into hospital 12 years ago for an unrelated matter but I was on a ward with guys who were all under 60 and with smoking related conditions, some terminal. I'd smoked 20 strong cigs a day for 20+ years then. I now haven't smoked for 12 years and haven't even craved one for 11 years and 10 months. I just stopped that day in hospital and never looked back.

My wife quit after a similar time smoking 20 per day 5 years ago. She used patches for two weeks and hasn't smoked since.

We also both quit drinking for various reasons 12 and 5 years ago.

I will repeat point one, you can only quit for you, not the doc, or wife, but because you want too. At that point you should never have another single cig. But to avoid the huge void you will feel, find other things to fill you time as smoking is 90% habit and 10% chemical. People sometimes say the opposite but it's easier to explain failure if you can blame a chemical rather than strength of mind.

On the plus side, we now own about £20,000 worth of camera gear and a static caravan, all paid for outright with cash we saved from our old habits!!

I appreciate the advice guys! :D

But I have quit! :) Now I'm doing my very best to stay quit. The choice has been made, I've started my smoke-free life, and I've been smoke-free for one day so far! :)

What a man. :encouragement: :triumphant:

It gets easier and is easiest when you sleep so you should be well into the 30 hours mark.
Now try not to even worry about how long it has been … that don't really matter. Count the hours to when your wife comes home instead. Cigarettes are no longer a part of your life.

I'm pulling for you Bill, and hoping your wife recovers soon.

I quit about 5 years ago after 45 years of smoking anything I could get lit (Cigars, cigarettes and pipes are all I can legally admit to).
I used a prescription drug called Chantix. After about 4 weeks I realized I no longer wanted the cigarette. Another 4 weeks on the meds and I don't even desire a smoke anymore.

Good Luck

Great work Bill!

The next few days will not be easy, but you've got through the hardest day.

Now you know it's possible!

Keep doing what you've already done, hour by hour. We're proud of you!
