I am so mad at myself today. Here I am a "photographer" and I can't get a sharp photo of myself! I will try portrait style next hoping I figure out why my cable remote shots are unkeepable! Been cussing up a storm, fill in your own words for that!lol
I am using my D700 with my 50mm set at f8 to make it easier, since f1.4 was worse on both my 50mm and my 85mm! I am tempted to use my D800e since that is my most used for portraits! But I don't need the huge files and it should be harder to get the best results out of between the two Nikon's! £¢€€•√^√√π°π÷°^^™℅°π°°!!!

Are you pre-focusing on something the same distance to where you will be standing then switching the camera to manual focus? Or are you using AF? If it is the latter, then the camera's AF may be locking in on something other than your face.

I am using AF. Just standing for a selfish. I know about prefocusing but haven't figured the exact distance and something to focus on. Here is where tape on the floor would be handy!lol
I hate selfies! I much prefer being behind the camera!lol :)

i recently had to take a self-portrait as a requirement for a geocache.
I put the camera on a tripod, set the camera to Auto, and used the bluetooth app on my phone to fire the camera.
Exposure was way off for me (fill flash in PP), but sharp as a tack!

But I can still grow a pretty good beard, when I am not unemployed...

Just for comparison, this is what I did for job-hunting a couple of months ago:

I did the same thing when I first became homeless about ten years ago, to try to get help for housing. It didn't help, so I let it grow and just cut off a few inches if I start sitting on it too much. After growing it out I kept the beard at a length my wife preferred.
