Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC Test

Thanks guys. It was taken as part of a set of 3 my wife requested for our lounge room.

While we're on the subject of Tamron (and I'll throw in Sigma here too), I'm a fan. When I switched from Pentax I had my heart set on the D800. What that meant tho was my budget for lenses was limited. I did a TONNE of research into the focal range I primarily shoot at and also to 'fill out' my collection too. The nutshell version is that i ended up with the Tamron 24-70 VC, the Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS and (for shits and giggles) the Sigma 150-500.
I've since added a Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and a Sigma 12-24.
Basically, if you choose wisely and put in the research; you can get 99.9% the lens for half the cost.

Looks like Tamron is running a $100 rebate on this lens plus rebates on other Tamron lenses, too--in case anyone wants to get off the fence. ;)

Yep, they seem to continually extend these rebates. When I bought my 70-300 VC USD in March, they had the same rebates. I am thinking it is their strategy to get people to consider Tamron over Nikon/Canon. When you think that the Nikon and Tamron versions of the 70-300 are almost the same price and perform the same, a $100 rebate will be hard to ignore. I did not ignore it.

Good luck with your decision I'm keeping both and bet you will also. :D

Yet another question for you: how well does the Tamron handle CA/PF compared to the 24-120? I noticed tons of it on the 24-120 from a recent trip & don't have the energy to try and remove it (this is after automatically removing it in LR) after getting rid of all the various spots from ~3,000 shots. I hadn't really noticed it before, but I also haven't been paying too much attention. If the Tamron is better in this regard, that alone would make me want to switch.

Nice shot vin how do you like this lens for landscapes?

24mm is good on a FF but the image quality (IQ) is the strong point. I still like my Tokina 19-35mm for landscape but I didn't have it with me.
I'm still looking for something I don't like about this lens.
