Had to photograph my rental that the people just moved out of. This lens locks accurately no matter the lighting. It just keeps impressing me over and over. My workhorse.

I really like how the Tamron VC "grabs" and locks the image. Some reviewers don't like that effect but I think it's very impressive.

Oh me too it gets it and holds on tight.
They are both good choices for different reasons. If you want movement control for slower shutter speeds, the Tamron is better. The Nikon is of course the top of it's class, but you pay 50% more and no VR/VC. The Nikon will hold it's value longer (unless a VR version comes out) and has slightly less barrel distortion on the wide end.

This was shot at a dimly lit studio room during demo recording session. I had to bring in a flash since I was shooting at f2.8 ISO 8063 and that only get me 1/20s for proper exposure. 36mm @ ISO 1600 1/80s f2.8, NEF converted to jpg via LR default settings. AF performed like a champ even in this low light condition.

I just ordered my Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 with a B+W polar filter from Amazon.de and an additional Nikon D610 from HDew. I obtained a D7000 (it was backfocusing like hell) for a week and a D600 for 1 day (it was sooo dirty) and now I have a Sony nex3 with kit lens
I am looking forward to seeing the 4-5 stops better low light shooting I do not like to expect too much, but I think this lens + body combination will offer an immense increase in low light shooting and picture quality over my current MILC.

When you mentioned polar filter are you talking about circular polarizer filter for indoor low light?

No, the polar filter decreases the light that your sensor can picks up. The polar filter will be very useful for outdoor shoot.
Guys! My lens just arrived today. It is soooo solid! I cannot try it since my nikon mount camera did not arrive yet, but what is delayed may come later It seems to be high quality lens, and it comes with 5 years of warranty... I will supply sample pictures as well once the camera is here!

It does cut light by ~2 stops but if your purpose of getting CPL filter is to just cut out light you might be better off getting an ND / GND filter
