Day 50
05 Weekly Challenge Nov 10-17 Macro (revisited)
"Work in progress"
H0 is the most popular scale of model railroads in the world. In H0 scale, 3.5 mm (0.14 in) represents 1 real foot (304.8 mm); this ratio works out to about 1:87.086. This is one of many custom works I have done. This one is about 85% complete and need more detailing and weathering to be finished, but close enough to photograph. It is the only one I own that is metal die cast. Came out of the box as a sliver hunk of metal, with lot of little pieces that needed to be painted and put together. It's one thing to paint them, but another thing to paint them so they run. Brass wheels that pick up electrical current from the track and metal moving pieces don't like paint. This engine has many hours of operating use as it stands. It was also featured many times on a "Club Layout" open house that I once belonged to as a yard switcher. These days it sits in a box waiting for new track to be laid somewhere.
(Railfan note: This is a non prototype engine for this railroad, and tender does not match engine prototype. This was two kits with missing pieces that I was able to save from someone who was going to throw them away and made them into one)
