If you were wearing a USMC hat I would say the pic was awesome!!!.

Day #22

Wow! Why didn't some of you tell me I was that good looking!!

Anyway, here is my very first off camera flash portrait using light modification (brolly box). It's me!!

I took a few shots to get the light and shadows right. I think I shot six images and this was the best. I had more issues getting auto focus to focus correctly than I had with lighting this thing.

Yuck!! I have a friend, who is an old Marine and always has his USMC hat on, and every time I see him I tell him he put on the wrong hat that day and I offer to give him one of my Army hats. :)

He has yet to take me up on it.

The Marines was my last choice to go into. I signed up for the coast guard first. They couldn't get my helicopter school for 2 yrs and I would have had to scrape and paint boats until I had an open slot. I then signed up to the army. I passed all the requirements to fly helicopters in their warrant officer training program. The only problem was I had poor eye sight. Just enough to fail the test. The Marines said I could advance to all the schools the Navy had without enlisting for a long period and I didn't have to wear a Navy outfit and look like a prisoner. So, for 4 years I did 3 years of avionics schooling on A6 and F14 aircraft and one tour in the Med. I did miss the opportunity of a life time. There was one set of orders to repair the presidents helicopters and I missed out on a flip of the coin. I would have stayed a full term for that.

Day #23

Bored to death and cold outside so I played with off camera flash again. Had some used light bulbs that needed to be tossed out anyway. Used them for some freeze frame shots.

I wish I had better focus on this shot. I tried another two attempts and missed the shot altogether.

Any Pat Travers fans?

Boom Boom . . . . Out go the Lights!

Were you just guessing at the timing to hit the shutter?

Yes. Just timing it by eye/guess work. I got this shot on the second try. The first shot was a little late and the shards had already dispersed and the bulb was off to the left a good bit. The two other shots I missed the timing altogether and one the bulb didn't break.

Camera on a tripod, manual settings and pre focused on the landing spot, radio poppers to fire off camera flash and remotely trigger the camera shutter. I stood and dropped the bulb and almost immediately fired the shutter.

*Day #24 (skipped)

Day #25

My 50mm f/1.8 "D" arrived today! Wasn't expecting it but Rokas Photo & Video out of California rules on shipping time. I just paid for this on Thursday afternoon and it is here on Saturday.

Anyway, I wanted to use it immediately so I could leave Feedback on eBay. I just did a shot of my little snack (shhhh!! Don't tell my Doctor I cheated on my diet)

Man, this lens is sweet! Focus snap is instantaneous. Close focus distance is decent. Less than 20" inches. Viewfinder sure is nice and bright with a 1.8 lens.

If the "G" lens is better I will have it in a few months.

Anyway, nothing has been done to this image other than crop and checking the levels adjustment. No sharpening, no saturation and no noise reduction.
