Nice work on learning LR. I know the curve can be steep, but you can do it. And once you do, you'll find that LR is such a great tool for basic adjustments, keywording, etc. I used to do all editing in Lightroom, and I really think it can be used as a standalone software. Once you figure out what everything does, it's super simple to edit in.

Yes I am learning slowly but believe it or not … after a week I still haven't sorted the filing system out. I thought I had but today's shots went into their own folder. I feel so dumb so please stop laughing - I can hear you from here.

Well I had a bit of fun and inspired by the previous poster @wreckdiver1321 I went in search of simple things that I could make interesting.
I discovered a whole galaxy out there!

I took a few others which I am going to play with and if they turn out OK will post them too.

To be fair, I just sort of let it do it's own thing. When I import, the photos go into a folder specific to the day they were shot. Then I edit, and I export all the photos to a single folder called "edited." All of these are in a folder marked "2014". Not the neatest, but it works for me.

Those of you that follow my thread will be thrilled to learn that I have finally resolved the catalog/folder issue in LightRoom (well in my head actually). No more bleating about that from me - are you happy?
It only took a week for me to resolve!

So now my attention turns to improving my processing and already I am totally BLOWN AWAY with what LightRoom can do.

Herewith two that I played with.
The first I am ecstatic with the way I was able to make it pop from what was previously a dull and overexposed image.
The second is my first attempt at whatever it is called when you desaturate but keep one colour.

Neither are great photos but there is a BIG smile on my dial tonight - it may actually require some wine to wipe it off and ... it is about that time of day.

Glad you are finding your way around Lightroom Lawrence, and those shots look great! Next, you'll have to have a go with Nik tools!:p

An overcast and rainy day here getting progressively wetter!

Trying to improve at LightRoom. I must say (again) how impressed I am with this software.

These large trees were in a local park and I am attempting to give them a bit of "punch"

Can anyone tell me how to get the EXIF data back? Since using LR it seems to have disappeared so I assume there is something that needs to be changed in the "export" settings.

Went to a horsey event today and working my way through the photos. Not too many horse shots taken though as it was too bright.
Did snap a few people working at stalls.
These two worked for Pieroth wines and he was clowning around.

And then with the lady I am not sure if I prefer the colour or the B&W

I thought it might be interesting to give some feedback on my interest in yesterday's horsey event! it was all about horses and all aspects of horse riding, training, feeding, breeding etc. basically an event for vendors to show and sell their wares.

My interest was in seeing the stallions from the Kaimanawa Ranges. These are wild horses that get culled annually to keep numbers manageable and someone came up with the brilliant idea some years ago of training these magnificent animals instead of urning them into pet food.

This year all but 19 (I think they said) out of hundreds were placed. 12 Of the country's top horse trainers were offered a few of the stallions and over the weekend, after less than a year's training, they were put through their paces in the "Kaimanawa Horse Stallion Challenge"

I discovered this fascinating story - well I find it fascinating - purely by accident on Face Book and started following Tommy Waara who is one of the trainers allocated 2 horses. His FB page is here for those interested: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tommy-Waara-Kaimanawa-Horse-Stallion-Challenge-2014/1383410241947464

This is a photo of Tommy which I am very pleased with - again I am undecided between the colour and B&W!

I went to camera club last night (new one for me) to test it out and it was fun. The guest speaker was a lady who specialises in Pet photography and more specifically terminally ill pets! She was very interesting to listen to, very passionate and a great photographer (shoots Nikon D800E). Her website address is Pet and Portrait Photography by Tara Sutherland

She gave us an exercise to do where one person is the photographer and the other the "pet". I started off as a pet and my photographer was hilariously incompetent. Huge camera bag, all the gear, monstrous off camera flash unit etc. Took 5 minutes to extract all this crap from his bag before he started shooting. I stopped counting after 17 shutters at which point he hadn't got one photo yet! A variety of excuses such as he had his reading glasses on, the lens wasn't focusing, flash wasn't working etc. In the end he discovered that he had forgotten to set to off camera flash! I couldn't even invite him to join us here at Nikonites as he shot that other brand!

I had my 35mm 1.8f and took two shots with no flash. Both worked fine for the purpose of the evening's exercise.

Today's shot is of my "pet" - not the photographer mentioned above - and then a second one of part of the group.
