i thought it might be interesting to give some feedback on my interest in yesterday's horsey event! It was all about horses and all aspects of horse riding, training, feeding, breeding etc. Basically an event for vendors to show and sell their wares.
My interest was in seeing the stallions from the kaimanawa ranges. These are wild horses that get culled annually to keep numbers manageable and someone came up with the brilliant idea some years ago of training these magnificent animals instead of urning them into pet food.
This year all but 19 (i think they said) out of hundreds were placed. 12 of the country's top horse trainers were offered a few of the stallions and over the weekend, after less than a year's training, they were put through their paces in the "kaimanawa horse stallion challenge"
i discovered this fascinating story - well i find it fascinating - purely by accident on face book and started following tommy waara who is one of the trainers allocated 2 horses. His fb page is here for those interested:
