Lawrence's 365 for 2014

I am struggling to workout LightRoom imports (to the correct catalogue) so before I lose the image for this day let me download one "as shot". Boring because no processing down yet but i am worried in case I delete all the photos from yesterday and fall out of the 365 - errrr…. that might be a good thing!

Lawrence, have you tried looking for a vid on how to import via Lightroom? I'm sure there would be plenty out there ;)

Importing is not the problem. I am having a problem importing into the right folder or catalogue as it is called in LR.

Just had a nice lunch so that might help! :)

POSTSCRIPT: 2 hours after lunch and I am no nearer to working this lot out. I am beginning to get annoyed now as it is probably a simple thing to do and after 2 days I have made no progress.
All I am trying to do is import images into something other than the "my Pictures" folder. Why should that be so hard to do?
Yesterday i thought I had deleted the images I didn't want and today they all seem to be there. Why should that be so hard to do?
So for the rest of today - I GIVE UP!

Pete @Blacktop my existing 365 project is in a folder entitled "Project 365/2014" which in turn is in a folder entitled "Nikon D5100 Photos" on my desktop.

My first import successfully imported all the files that were in the "Project 365/2014" folder at that point (2days ago) into a "2014" folder in LR. So all seem fine.

Before going any further let me explain that within the "Project 365/2014" folder I have a folder for each month and within those a folder for each week further broken down into folders for each day of that week. OK so that is probably an overkill but it is what it is - and what's more it imported exactly like that.

However the last 2 days imports are behaving differently and creating separate folders outside of my "Project 365/2014" folder but within, and as an extra folder, the LR "2014" folder.
If it continues on this basis I will have 365 folders in the "2014" folder/catalog. All I can say at this point is "Thank goodness neither this nor next year is a leap year otherwise I would have 366 folders!"

Hope that all makes sense because after 2 days my head is pounding.

Oops almost forgot to post what is now yesterdays photo.
I went to a lunch where I took several portrait shots but have not processed them yet as I grapple with new software.
Here's one I did in PSE 11 (I thought I had posted one!)

Needs processing but not bothered about it until I know what I am doing. Please accept apologies

Another day spent of LightRoom (haven't even started on PS CC yet) but I think there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
it will take me a while to sort things out in my confused head though.
So in the interests of pressing on here is a photo for the day just to stay in (very badly processed in Elements 11)

Mike I think that is exactly what my problem is.
I need to forget everything I learned in Elements 11 and how I stored things and start from scratch. I'll get there!

Well you have to suffer a little bit longer as I have still not mastered Lightroom/photoshop CC combo but my progress today has been pretty good. Still struggling to come to terms with the cataloging/filing/saving/save as systems.

So you get a frog today which was one of the photos I took to test cataloging. He looks far more relaxed than I have been in a while.

OK peeps I am nearly back on track thanks to Scott Kelby and Laura Shoe. Scott wrote it all down and Laura has shown me how. Finally this old brain is kicking in and I am beginning to understand the first part of Lightroom. The processing etc is a whole new learning curve but hopefully from tomorrow's post I will be a lot more comfortable with it and I can actually start learning how to process.

But for today here is a Tui (stunning birds with amazing singing ability) that I shot this morning. I think my 70-300mm with 1.4X TC zoned in on the flowers instead of the bird. However it's what you get as I processed it in LR5 and PS CC. So essentially my first full attempt although the ford was too but only basic used there.

Note still no watermark/copyright which is tonight's project.

Really nice catching up a bit on your thread, Lawrence :)

I'm sure you'll love LR. I recentlly changed over (still on my trial period), and I can only say that I absolutely LOVE it. I don't know if it's just me, but I think I can see quite a big leap in PP quality after my shift. Enjoy :)

Lawrence.....have a look at MCP Actions. I use their watermark action in PS (free). I know some of their stuff is for Lightroom as well as for PS.

Photoshop Actions and Lightroom Presets | MCP Actions

Thanks Pat. I downloaded that and will take a look but in the meanwhile I did my plain simple one in LR. The nice thing about Elements 11 was you could create a brush and change the colours, opacity and positioning on the fly. So far haven't found if you can do this in LR. But small steps as today's photos testifies (see next entry).

Righto I finally have an inkling on LR basics and progress is forward >>>>>>>>> feels good.

I was on my way to replenish my spices supply (did you know I love my curries) when I came across this house and it just caught my eye. I think it was the brickwork against the wood that appealed to me.
I have just spent some considerable time in LR to improve the overall look and am quite happy with the result.

Ok so I need to work on a few things (such as the watermark which is far too ostentatious - big and bold - for my liking. But little steps will get me there.

Thanks Mai.
That was an image drawn on a wall outside a chiropractor's office. Pretty cool except for the fact that the right arm/shoulder combination is all wrong if you look closely at the gap between the forearm and bicep and line it up with where the shoulder should be. When you see it once you can't help seeing it every time.
