I can't help but think buying a beat up 600 and turning it into a new D610 is a pretty smart thing to do. You may have to pose as the original owner with a new address but if you don't mind doing the dance with Nikon, in the end you'll be well rewarded.

I don't think you have to pose as anything... They're not asking for original receipts, as far as I know...
YAHOO!!!!! My D610 arrived today from Nikon. They really did replace my D600! I'm so happy I could just go shoot pictures.
I'm sitting in my home office, this morning, doing paperwork. I hear a ring of my doorbell. I see BIG BROWN sitting in front of my window. I go to the door and sign for my package, not knowing what's inside. I open it up and see my D600 under all of the bubble wrap. Nikon never sent me an email that would've informed me of my camera being in transit back to me. If I'd not got wrapped up in daily paperwork, I'd be out in the field, visiting clients and would've missed my delivery. Anyway, the packing slip implies the following:
RPL IMAGE CTL PCB
RPR SHUTTER MECHANISM
CLN LOW PASS FILTER
CLN AF UNIT
GENERAL CHECK & CLEAN
FIRMWARE UPGRADE
I haven't had a chance to take any shots yet. It's obvious what most of the abbreviations/codes denote (Replace, repair and clean) . . . I'm just wondering if this is consistent with everyone else's experience with returning their D600's for shutter/dust issues. Thanks in advance.
I just took the cap off of the body and looked into my camera. I see a SMUDGE on my mirror. I've never had a SMUDGE on my mirror. Now, I'm a bit concerned about everything that Nikon might've done to my camera. I still haven't placed a lens on it or even placed the battery in. I'll get around to that later. But, how do you send a camera back to the customer with a big SMUDGE on the mirror?Not to mention that my camera was sent in on March 1st. Today is April 17 . . . You do the math . . .
