    Longer exposure than 30 seconds?

No that's not correct. The intervalometer just uses Bulb mode as a method of process. The intervalometer opens and closes the shutter for you. That's the object of an intervalometer.

    Longer exposure than 30 seconds?

You don't have to look at the clock of the Intervalometer. You set it, and then just push the button just like you'd push a shutter button... and the intervalometer manages the time intervals. Alternatives to Nikon Lithium Ion Battery Pack EN-EL14a in the D3400?

Sure, see the link that @Needa posted above. Pretty much covers it... Nikon batteries, and any other OEM's batteries are not unique in any way. There is a plethora of battery makers that make 3rd. party batteries for every battery powered device ever made.

    Nikon Z 70-180mm f/2.8

Well...they're just pushing the envelope a little by moving that 20mm into the 180-600 So the basic trinity becomes the 24-70, 70-180, 180-600.. they're trying ti get that 70-180 user to go for the 180-600

    Nikon Z 70-180mm f/2.8

Wow... That went from 50oz. for 70-200 down to 28oz for the 70-180 version. That's a lot. The 180-600 only dropped 10oz. from the 200-500's 80oz.
