Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Couple of moon shots recently. The 1st one, I took great joy in going OVERBOARD with the edit to draw out the surface of the moon and still be able to see the wispy cloud cover. The second one was just playing around with the trees... This past weekend, the wife and I finally got to take...

Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Seems like it's been forever since I posted a pic. (maybe because it has) Also seems like forever since I've actually slowed down long enough to post a pic. (maybe because it has) Work is nuts, and the constant deadlines/new projects/stress is turning me into a zombie after work, so there...

October Monthly Challenge - Creep Me Out

October 2015 Assignment: CREEP ME OUT! ...NO... I don't mean pictures of Pretzel. October... the temperatures are getting chillier in the Northern hemisphere, but even those in the Southern seem to get chills even as the weather begins to warm. WHY!? All Hallow's Eve, Halloween...

    Half...

I wouldn't necessarily remove catch lights, as they're often fantastic for setting a pic apart from the rest, but the position and size in this pic is the only "MINOR" detail that detracts from it. They seem to be right over the pupil, so that desired detail is lost. FANTASTIC shot, though...

September Monthly Challenge - THE EYES HAVE IT!

September 2015 Assignment: The EYES have it! Eyes... the window to the soul. How do you know if someone is telling you the truth, or if you have their respect? How can you tell if someone is comfortable around you, confident or nervous? It's all in the eyes. A good portrait can draw...

New Camera Purchase dilemma : What trade off do I make

Echo... I have shot quite a bit at ISO 1600 and 3200 and easily been able to recover from any sensor noise with my D7100. Hands down my recommendation based on what I've read and budget constraints. Here's a sample of an amazingly clean ISO 1600 shot... To get EVERYTHING on your wish list...

Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Been a while since I posted. Figured I'd throw up a few... Bought a quart of half n' half and food coloring, then tried some drop shots. Then caught this wicked looking twist of souls and captured a good close-up. It reminded me a bit of way back when I read Dante's Inferno, so I titled...

    Photoshop CC, Yes or No?

THEN... (c'mon guys, you knew I wouldn't just leave it there) there are a TON of online resources to teach you the nuances of PS tools, including quite a few wonderful tidbits in a thread from @BackdoorHippie in our tutorials area. You'll LOVE PS once you get a few of the tricks under your...

    Post your latest purchases.

@Retro posted a link earlier, decided I need to try some of that! Should make those long editing sessions easier? If not, at least the mug is cool, especially when used to one's advantage during another large group meeting at work. ;) (images came from their website, www.deathwishcoffee.com)

    Flash problems

Finally got it to fire the way I was wanting... mostly. Need to go out and get some triple A's for my RF trigger set. :) Any thoughts? It's late night, so the edit may just be plain out nuts. SB700 firing through a white umbrella.

    Flash problems

On flash, my SB700 is putting out fantastic light. Taking it off and running in commander mode, it's MUCH dimmer... (D7100 in cmd mode, SB700 in slave mode, on-board flash as the trigger, all other camera settings exactly the same). What am I doing wrong?

Post your best shot taken in June 2015

Of all my shots, even the macros that I adored, this one tops it for me I think. It appeals to me, at least, if nobody else... :)

Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Finally, some toying around with light painting. These were 15 second exposures in a dark living room. The only light came from a penlight passed over the violin... I love the way subjects stand out when done this way. Same basic shots, different lighting on each one... mediocre at best...

Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Then, using the Raynox again, a goofy attempt to be "artsy". I call it Shadows of Life.

Pretzel and the Gypsy King - A Tale of Adventure (cum a spus de fotografie) for 2015

Just a few things I've been goofing around with lately. 1st a couple of up close macro shots of BuckyBalls! One is a mixed color set (black/orange), and the other is my son's set that's all chrome. GREAT TOYS, no longer available except obscure internet places...

    Next Lens: 105mm f2.8 or 85mm f1.8 - One or both?

    1) OUCH. 2) There are times when I'm shooting macro, and there is no way in hell a tripod will fit where I'm going, or can be set up fast enough to catch the subject I'm after. (Try telling a jumping spider to wait a few minutes while you get a tripod into the bushes and lined up properly) 3)...

    Nikonites Lens Cloths!

Worked this time around. Earlier, the site would show the correct total, but when porting to Paypal it was showing $0.00. This time it opened PayPal with the correct amount and all is well! (P.S. I won't tell @SteveL54 how fast you got them to me... these are GREAT!!! ;) ;) )

    Post your spiders

This little jumper wouldn't come out and pose for me, so I stuck my bald head into the bushes and got what I could. Isn't he CUTE!?
