Again, just some performance testing. 1st, a semi-close shot, normal wood screw in front of a regular sized coffee cup. No cropping. Gettin' CLOSE UP on the same screw. No cropping. Then a 100% crop of the above pic in a square format... you can see the scarring from where this screw...

Nonsense shots, testing capability and nothing else. Right out of the box, at work, no editing/pp except for the final post, which is a crop of the 3rd. The rest are "as is", straight conversion from RAW to JPG. 1st, just a general "what I used to consider as close-up" at that focal length...

I can tell ya, right up front, the Sigma and Nikon 105mm are within 2 points of each other on DXo ratings, and that marginal of a difference isn't visible to the human eye. Having shot with a loaner Nikon, and now holding the Sigma, the build quality feels much more solid on the Sigma, but the...

Thanks, @Marilynne! The next trip is probably next July with the family, as always. I may start taking an extra solo trip each year as well, though, as I get one more week of vacation than the wife does. If the airfare is within reach...

All with the 50mm 1.8G, for reference, except with the last, which was the 18-55 3.5-5.6!!! (please note, the one with my son was just a test of my flash/umbrella set-up, but still shows the quality that the 50mm can capture up close.)
