    Manfrotto 498 RC2 - Very Disappointed

Re: 498 RC2 - Very Disappointed I have the Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head, and I've never had a problem with it......yet. Then again, the longest lens I have is the 55-300. Since I KNOW that there will be a slight sag when I lock it down, I compensate by tightening it UP just a tad. That way, I'm...

    Motorcycle Stunts

I should have put this before I posted the bike pics; this is what I was doing before the bikes showed up. My buddy took the shots with my D200 with the 35mm. He took about a dozen shots, but I figure these two shots would do. :)

    Motorcycle Stunts

I was out testing some octocopter equipment with my buddy this afternoon and got in a surprise photo shoot of some motorcycle stunt guys. I took 235 shots and saved 80 of them. The rest of them were mostly repetitious shots.

    Good video for beginners...

I thought I'd post this here for the beginners in the group. Explains what all those buttons do. :) Digital Photography 1 on 1: Episode 45: Getting to know your DSLR - YouTube

    The Meadow

I personally like the first one, too. The second one, I would have cropped out a little more off the top of the shot. Either one, I would be proud to hang on a wall. :)

    Anyone Get the Super Moon?

Took a few shots around 10:15 tonight. Both were shot at ISO 100, f/11, 1/125th. Used Mirror Up method on a tripod to get the least amount of blur. 55-300 AF-S lens @ 300mm. This is the actual colour of the moon as I saw it tonight. Next ones are going to be around 12:20 tonight, just to...

    Marie the bride

I actually had the same idea as Helene, as far as cropping goes, and I added a little blue tinge to it to add a little brightness to the overall shot. All in all, you took a nice shot there, bud. :) Oh...and I brightened it up just a touch....to see her face better. :)

    D90 Pics

Re: D90 pics Nice shots. The only thing I would have done is to sharpen up the dog just a tad and made it a little brighter...like this:

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

This was just after the rain stopped yesterday evening. I was out in my back yard shooting some nice cloud formations when this guy came along overhead. I ALMOST got him in focus....had to shoot fast, and had the 18-105 lens on the D40. That's a young hawk, by the way.

    Kelvin white balance

Moab Man is absolutely right. I've used this method a few times on my D200. Here are 3 examples of using K in extremes, from low K to very high K: The only settings changed were the K settings. Everything else was exactly the same. Notice the difference in colour.

    One flash shot

Say hi to my "model" Horsey. :) He never argues, and always stays where I put him. :) Now...onto this post. I used one flash (SB-700 Speedlight) for this shot....behind the model! How did I get this result? :) Figure it out and let me know what you come up with. :)

    Closeup of European Wasp

OK, I'll go along with your assessment. :) I color corrected it again. How's this? :)

    Closeup of European Wasp

OK, after having looked at the photo, two things jumped out at me right away. One, the colour was off. Two, it lacked sharpness. This is how I corrected it. Compare the two shots and decide which one you like better. See the difference? :)

    post your aviation shots!

This is probably my one and only aviation shot that you'll ever see from me. :) It just happened to be flying overhead as I was taking pics of ducks and things. :)

    thundering herd!

I would have gotten a tighter shot to start with (closer to the action). Then I would have brightened up the picture a little, to give it better definition (saturation). Then I would have cropped it a little tighter to keep the focus on the horses. Allow me to show you my version, using your...

Would this image look good printed out on 8x10 photo paper?

hmmmmm. Ya know...I really like this shot. The composition is pretty good....very pretty scene. But something about it bugged me.....I couldn't quite put my finger on it right away. Then it dawned on me! This is what I came up with in my version: Tell me what you think. Now...on to your...

    First real attempt at Portraits

Nice first attempt at portraits. First, let me say your friend is drop dead gorgeous! :) You can tell her so for me, too! lol :) Just two of the shots I would change.....just a little. A little cropping was in order, so I'll show you what I did. The top shot, I cropped out the top right...
