Welcome to Nikonites. You say your 18-55 lens doesn't have an A/M switch on it? I'd like to see that!The 18-55 kit lens is an AF-S lens, and it does have a switch on it. It should also have a VR switch on it, too.

Something tells me you should use Matrix metering with that lens. Here's a shot I just took about half hour ago with my 35 mounted on my D40. Sharp all over.

Bill, look on the top part, where the pins are. It should have a serial number and it will say Made in Thailand, along with some symbols, such as a 10 inside an arrowed circle, a garbage can with an X through it, the letters CE and FCC. The grip itself will only hold one battery...the camera...
