D750 Light Leak videos

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see any of this as being a light leak issue. I don't think that light is entering the camera through a hole or gap in the body. Again, though, if someone would provide pictures of the 'leak" appearing when the lens cap is on, we would know that it truly is a light leak.

If there was a hole in the cam that caused the leak, the CP filter wouldn't have any effect. I was convinced from day one there was another reason for it. What I'm doing isn't showing there is a leak but showing that those out there making videos, screaming and crying what a crappy cam it is because of this leak, better learn a thing or two about photography.

While googling around I discovered this:

https://photographylife.com/what-is-ghosting-and-flare

It explains that this is ghosting and veiling flare. When I use the CP, the ghosting pops out and shows clearly.

I have thought this was flare all along, but I don't think I've seen the sharp, straight edge on flare like this before.

I wondered if it was the mirror since it is up when using live which would also explain why you don't see it in the viewfinder. But I don't see how it could block the flare without doing the same for the normal light.

That Polish guy is clearly not a genius. Both shots are taken at a slightly different angle. Slapping those together even when you rotate one a bit will never be accurate.

Here's the two originals without his edit:

The bad one is clearly smaller too.

I decided to simulate the sun.

Here's my mini-sun; a dwarf compared to the real one.

See how my "light leak" increases:

Now check the EXIF.

There is no light leak, there is only bad photography.

... I enjoy digging into because of all that wha-wha about this non-issue.

That was the goal of the thread, have some people look into what is really going on, so people can find real information iso I want a lot of hits from Canon fanboys on my youtube.

I'm amazed by some information I encounter out there. A day ago I was watching a vid and some guy was boasting his Canon could bracket much more EV differences than the Nikon. What he didn't tell is that we grab half of what he needs to bracket in one shot.

It is a non-issue for me. I can take any shot I like without any problem. That I can't take the shots I don't like doesn't bother me.

If that part really reflected "light" these shots would be impossible. It reflects (actually blocks) wash-out flare that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Im sure MANY dont have this issue and many wont even see it because they dont shoot much and wont shoot in certain situations. and for the single image or two wont even notice it. and if they do wont know to assess the defect and will simply throw it away. many people dont have the skill or understanding to know what the problem is when shooting or even looking at the infected image.

I myself shoot all the time with the sun in my face. so good for you that you dont have the problem, now I can sleep well knowing one out of tens of thousands dont have ths issue. this doesnt mean it doesnt exist. it does for many. youre sounding like those who dismissed the oil problem with the D600 and look where that ended up.

I'm not dismissing anything. I know what happens and why it happens but I also know these guys are making a huge drama of a non-issue.

Look at that "fix" video and tell me that after he solved the so called problem, if the shot he framed in the live-view is a shot anyone will ever take?

Here let me show you how fantastic the fix is and what great shots he now can take.

There isn't any less flare or wash-out. There's more and that makes him happy or what? This is drama about half bad or whole bad. To me, bad is bad; it doesn't matter how much.

great, youre camera isnt affected. then move on. people are trying to asses how many are affected.to you its not an issue, to others it is. and a very sever one. so accept that. people who have the issue dont care to listed to someone say its ok your problem isnt an issue when their shot is ruined.

My D750 is just as much affected as theirs. The difference is that I don't take shots below or next to intense light sources without doing what anyone should do; protect their lens from grabbing undesired light.

That's 101.

Ok you not made your knowledge very clear to me. you are not working weddings and you shoot for recreation. in weddings and under heavy time constrains almost all shoot backlit. we shoot the BG in the sun all the time. we shoot them in sunsets, we shoot them in every situation u can think of. and since this is video and we shoot video with the BG walking and panning them, its a n extremely sever problem. and if it came in 2-3 seconds in the frame, the shot is uselless and has to be done over or thrown and there is no place for this when people run late in weddings. your mind is thinking in the hobbyist world. my mind is in the pro world. and there is no place for it there

How many people here are using the D750? Quite some and we take all kinds of shots doing all sorts of photography from landscape to portrait. I can tell you that with some effort, all can reproduce it.

How come none here ever mentioned the light leak problem? Is it that everyone here is incapable of taking those quality shots that suffer the issue?

Flare in whatever form from ghosting to wash-out has always been a problem with lenses from day one in photography and sometimes it adds to a shot but more often it ruins them. Wash-out is about the worst since it kills contrast and colors. That's why we have lens hoods, position differently or use whatever at our disposal to shield the lens.

I use my hand when the hood isn't doing it, or my body to block.

People are so caught up in this drama they don't see the real problem. The leak is but a symptom.
