I like the pose in #2 and might try a different crop. Eye contact in #4 is great, though and the far away gaze in #5 is nice, as well. LOL. I dunno'

I can, and often do, sit and watch Great Blue Herons for hours.

There was an eagle sitting above, and I think he was keeping an eye on it.

Mallards mating in fall? I checked with my biologist bird expert friend and he said this is actually not unusual. The way ducks brains are wired and the fact that the photoperiod is about the same now is spring causes them to act as if it really is spring. Anyway, in this series of pics we see the head bob from the male to the waiting female, the act, and the ritualistic behavior after.

Migratory ducks, like this handsome Gadwall drake, are back in town as the autumn leaves provide colorful reflections in the water. I took these shots this morning in a little pond near our house.
