You nail the story!
We just got back from Bosque del Apache in New Mexico. When driving 550 miles to a location to photograph birds, there are no guarantees. We had lots of bad light and fewer cranes than we had hoped for at our favorite location in the preserve. "Never give up, never surrender," as they say in Space Quest. There was a report of two White-tailed Kites in the area, and while it seemed a little like a needle in a hay stack search, Lorraine spotted two perched a ways off the road on our last morning. This is far from a great shot, but it is the first time we have seen a White-tailed Kite, so it's still pretty special for us.

They look so...By the way, they are not wild pigs, and are not even close to being scientifically related to pigs. Well, they are both hoofed mammals, but otherwise a different classification.
