Vixens other Shots and Random Wanderings

I know I should drop by more often but I don't pick my camera up anywhere near as much as I should. Life is pretty busy ATM but hopefully we should be able to get out on a boat ( I say "A" boat as we now plan to go bigger) more often once we get the old M-in-L placed in a nursing home. She's 93 the old dear and been living alone with our support, but the time has come for 24hr care (she's in hospital with placement on discharge), which means we can now come and go at any hour and stay out all night if we please. Looking forward to it to be honest :D

We headed out on our boat again for a while. We had 10days spare but ended up being out for 8. It was an unusual stretch of weather for this time of year....autumn over here but 28degC days felt very summery...and very very light winds. Our sails did not go up once. The upshot though was clear glassy smooth water and the feeling of tropical paradise as we sat on the boat out at Moreton Island watching schools of 1m long kingfish swim past, starfish lazing on the bottom, the 2m shovelnose ray that did a few laps of the boat, the squid and the dolphins (just a shame they didn't come up close to the boat). I was a bit disappointed not to see any dugongs but you can't have it all.....and then out at peel Island....CORAL!! Real coral.....just gorgeous.

and with my Tamzooka all fixed the beach curlews on Peel Island were the perfect subject

Ready to go at the marine where our boat is kept. We are moving it soon to the marina at Manly to give us more sailing options

@Vixen , I hope you faired well during the bad weather that just passed through your area. I hope your boat was safe as well.
There are some terrible scenes in the news from that weather system, and 5 lives lost.......

So...what has Vixen been up to since middle of last year? Not much,...... but in September we found a buyer for our little yacht, even though it wasn't for sale and then in November we bought a bigger yacht even though it wasn't for sale either. Things sometimes just work out like that. She's a nice fat 33ft. Proper ocean sailing yacht.

Good to hear your boat survived that storm Vixen, I was thinking the worst at the time when you stopped posting.
The new one looks great.
Thanks for dropping by and letting us know you are still around.
Now dust off that camera and post some photos :D

Thanks for the welcome back fellas. I'm going to try to drop in more and post more pics :D So....our first trip out on our new boat was in January. We've just had weeks of rain and crap weather recently so not been out. Hope to get out again next week if it will ever stop raining every 5mins.

Lots of sea stars on Moreton Island in January so made the most of them. Sadly, we had our Scruffy little dog euthanised a few weeks ago. Can't believe how much I miss her

Been a pretty crap week. Ex tropical cyclone Debbie tore on down the coast as a tropical low bringing torrential rain ( we had 600mm or 24 inches in 36hrs) which has bought extensive flooding to many areas. At least 8 houses in the tiny village I live in were flooded, or damaged by landslides.

We were without power for only 48hrs which was a surprise as we expected to be out for much longer, but mobile phone, landline phone and internet have been very intermittant for the last 5 days.

Downstream our closest town was very hard hit (Murwillumbah) with many houses flooded and extensive property losses. It was the biggest flood in 60+ years.

We were isolated in our little community for days. Road was cut by either water, landslides or road damage on all 3 of our possible exit routes. They are clear not but still lots of debris and dirt and road damage to negotiate.

As you can imagine HUGE cleanup efforts in progress. I spent 6 1/2hrs with another person cleaning a neighbours kitchen in an effort to save it. The water went thru at 6ft and every surface had to be washed down 4 times to remove the mud (and there is still mud in all the joins and corners. We have not even started on the kitchens contents, that is just the kitchen itself. Just impossible to get out in the conditions). You can imagine the heartbreak of not having insurance because it just costs way too much to insure a house in a flood zone here.

Myself....I live up on a hill, so no damage whatsoever. I feel lucky

These were taken just before midday when the river inundated the houses the first time to a depth of about 1.5ft. It rose again at midnight that same day to do the major damage

Glad to hear you are OK Vixen. I feel sorry for the ones affected badly.
Its Rockhampton's turn tomorrow, it takes up to a week for the floodwaters to reach them, they get a flood without the rain.

I don't record all my rainfall, just the bigger falls. I added up March's rainfall that I have recorded and it's over 1m (40inches)...that's a lot of water!!

Full moon last night over the marina. I love how the shadow of the marina pylon splits the colour on the water
