Not sure how this fits in with the rest of my Kelby Walk shots, and I'm not a big fan of selective color, but it's the only way I could get this to work. If I could have recovered more in the upper left corner I'd like it a lot more.

Was great to hook up with Jdeg, Eduard and Hark today in Princeton. I've been frustrated for hours this afternoon as I cannot get HDR Efex Pro 2 to cooperate with Lightroom and/or Photoshop. That said, I decided to take a deep breath and to try the basic HDR tools in Photoshop with a 7 image series taken in Princeton Chapel. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with these in the Nik tools, but I'm more than happy with this rendering.

VERY nice capture. You did a great job even though you were saddled with Jdeg and Eduard!

Your Chapel shot is just SUPER! Jake. It really showcases the 16-35 which is, in my opinion, one of Nikon's sharpest lens.

In a weird way, it reminds me of Salvidore Dali's "Melting Clocks." :)

With the software issues sorted out, here's one from the back of the chapel.

Interesting, for the Photowalk folks , I saw a similar shot from a little closer up up on the Flickr page for the walk. I know that when I left the chapel at about 1:10 there were still folks inside, so I have no idea how he got it unless he waited around for them to clear the place again. Which begs the question, is a photo taken shortly after the walk ended (though he may still have been "walking") any more/less valid than one taken shortly before it officially start?

I guess I should provide some details on the photo above. It's a 5 frame HDR shot with the D600 and 24-85mm zoom at 28mm. It was aspect corrected in Lightroom, merged in HDR Efex Pro 2, and then tweaked in Viveza 2 and Photoshop. The windows were extremely difficult to preserve in HDR Efex Pro since the control points are color/tone based and not area specific. So I pulled in an image from the series that had the windows properly exposed as a new layer and masked in only the windows. Huge difference.

To give you an idea or what the lighting was really like in there, here's the "normal exposure" shot from the back and without aspect correction. I used the windows from -2EV from here.

In a weird way, I think I may just need to grow out the handlebars on my moustache. ;)

Me too!!! ::what::

I just went ahead and wrote a comment on that photo. Let's see what he says. ;)

You're growing out the handlebars on your moustache?! ;)

I didn't want to poke him on his photo.. Was thinking about PM'ing him since his exif data is hidden, but heck, he's a Canon shooter, why should I expect ethics?! LOL Seems he's saying he got in under the wire. Who am I to question him?

And he responded quickly by saying:

Thanks. We go in at the very end of the walk. The bride and groom came out and a few of use went in the side entrance and shot. I think we had about 10 minutes before they shut the lights off on us.

So now I'm wondering about the time-stamp thing. Since the time was off on your photos, were they an hour ahead or behind? Is the EXIF data on flickr photos visible?

I traded emails with the Kelby folks and they said that it's all on the honor system and the it's up to the walk leaders to determine if a photo is unqualified for entry in the contest. I mentioned specifically to Chris that my shots were taken beforehand, so regardless of exif data she knows - not that I care enough about winning anything to even consider going against submission rules. I've got photos from within the walk that I'm more than proud of, but I'm particularly fond of how the HDR in the chapel came out. I may just stick it up on the Flickr groups anyway, but I won't enter them.

I believe I'd rather be the spider. A Black & Yellow Argiope my wife spotted yesterday.

Did I ever mention how difficult handheld macro photography is on a windy day?
