Day 74, 2013 - Softball Game

The other day a soccer game going on presented itself as a new shooting opportunity. Today it was ladies high school softball. Below are two game shots and a spectator shot.

Unfortunately the sun is not cooperating. I had to crank up the ISO to over 2000. However, I am really impressed with how good the pictures look at such a ridiculous ISO. Additionally, I had to shoot at 200 mm zoom and then crop because I was just too far away. Having shot two sports now I really understand why so many photographers have such monster lenses and that it's not just compensating for something else. LOL

Day 75, 2013 Pictures In The Park

The park behind my house has so much activity and is a hot spot for people coming over to shoot pictures. Lots of natural backdrops. This morning I caught two friends going over to shoot some pictures. They had spectacular fun and it was a joy to watch the two of them. Here is one of the goofy moments between posed shots. I shot nearly one hundred photos of the two having fun. And as much as I'm sure they will enjoy the pictures that were taken I thought they would enjoy even more the candid shots I did of the two of them so I burned them a disc of all the shots. Ultimately, it was great to see them enjoying photography for what it should be - fun and enjoyable!

Day 76, 2013 - First Sign of Spring

Technically the first sign of spring is when Wal-mart starts bringing out the summer wear. In nature though, this is the first sign of spring.

Learned: I have been posting pictures on here a while and could never seem to get them to look anywhere near as sharp as they should. I was downsizing the picture to a width of 10", left the dpi at 240, and finally "Saved for Web" in Photoshop. And the previously above, deleted now, look like crud and not nearly as sharp as it should have been.

What I did was change the dpi to 96 and do a regular "Save as" to jpg. This helped out the image immensely. I know it will never be as sharp as the full file is on my computer, but this is MUCH closer.

Day 77, 2013 - Teenage Scowl

Working with my teenage daughter I asked her for that girl scowl and she delivered. Only thing I don't like is the way the sunlight hit and colored her hair in the lower right corner. Otherwise, I love the shot.

And one other for Day 77, but in the evening.

I kept looking at these powerlines and figured there had to be some way to make them interesting. Here it is.

Day 78 continued... Stars

Working on my technique and it's getting better. There is a lot of haze in the air, incoming storm, but with what I have learned here I was able to catch a pretty sharp night shot. The brightness of the moon didn't help but if I can get a decent shot under poor conditions then the right conditions should be spectacular.

I love the way the white of the birch trees just pop out of the dark.

ISO 200
Aperture 5
Focal length 28 mm
Exposure 10"
Focused on the moon (auto) then switched to manual to hold focus
Shot in "Live view" to steady the camera by minimizing the movement in camera
Shutter release by remote
