Day 79, 2013 - Stars

Tonight we had rain followed by a clearing and clear air. Although the moon was still bright I had ideal shooting conditions for being in the city. Really getting this to come together nicely which is making me really excited to go somewhere remote and shoot where the stars seem to light up the sky like it's on fire. Here in the city I see about 1/16 of all the stars that show up in the picture.

Thanks again for all the help here on this help and a particular thanks to Whitelight who chatted directly with me to dial in my skills and answer some questions.

ISO 200
Aperture 3.5
Focal length 18 mm
Exposure 10"
Focused on a bright star then switched to manual to hold focus
Shot in "Live view" to steady the camera by minimizing the movement in camera
Shutter release by remote

i have seen some nice images where items in the foreground where lit by a flashlight. Think this would work well with you church.

I love the 1st one the colour and trees framing look great to my untrained eye :) The second one needs a full moon and a witch flying in front

Thanks White light. You were a huge help getting me where I needed to get started. I am so hooked on night photography. Thinking hard about a 35 mm 1.8 prime lens for night photography of the stars.

You are welcome!
If you would really like to give it a go, a wide angle lens would be the best.
The 35mm too would limit you in the area you can focus on...
When i shot some of my pics, i had my 35mm with me, but the 18-66m 'kit lens' worked better cos of the wider angle of view and as you can see the results were not bad at all

Some of you that live, or have lived, in Europe may recognize this little guy.
