Helene I love your picture of old man winter he is so cool and the fact that you have him in your house that is even better. I love how his face is lit up and the branch is just a nice addition I love looking forward to your pictures everyday. And yet again I can not comment that well because your pictures amaze me.

So you got "Old Man Winter" and he's in your house? Do me a favor, slap him for me. He's about to do a number on us here in the Midwest. Great photo, is this "touched" with HDR? It's got to be, looks like you're really enjoying that program. I like the colors.

Snow White
Feb 1st 32/365

We were out playing in the snow while it was snowing. I've forgotten how much can go wrong when you're trying to take a photo in the snow . . . my glasses were fogging up, my lens was getting spots, my boots were too tight with the socks I had on, I STILL did not have fingerless gloves, and the snow had covered up all the rocks and "uneven" ground . . . sigh . . . but I'M NOT COMPLAINING after seeing what the rest of the country and poor Australia are faced with. Hey, I can live with this for a couple of days!

I'm just glad I didn't get trampled! LOL

Already did that for ya! and he paid me back with 16 INCHES OF SNOW AND -4 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT! :(

Yes, I used the photoshop hdr . . . it just makes the shadows richer --more depth to the picture. Try it (HDR), you'll like it!

Jen and jack, thank you! Did you know we have a ski area just 30 miles from here? I used to ski all the time . . . now it's too much trouble to get into the equipment LOL

Oh Helene just breathtaking. I love the clouds and how they have organized themselves just for you. The trees just look absolutely beautiful :).

Thank you, Christine. I hadn't been able to see the mountain for two days, which is really unusual. . . had this glimpse for just 2 minutes tonight, and it clouded over again.
It doesn't look like 16 inches of snow, does it?

I have HDR. I have CS5 & Photomatix. I've been playing with a few, just have not posted. I've been using old pictures from last summer that were really not bracketed for HDR, so I have a lot of ghosting that the programs will not take out. I have the D3000 which does not auto bracket, however next week when I upgrade I'll have auto bracketing and things will be much easier for me and I'll start posting some HDR's in my 365.

FREESTYLE is now locked, but I wanted to comment on your icicles. Nice capture. You got the drip in focus.... something I was trying to do, Looks great.

"Capitan Mountain Range " -- at 6 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT!!! We southwesterners are not cut out for this kind of temperature . . . nobody is happy . . . not my animals, not even my truck! I believe I've changed my mind about a cruise to Antartica! LOL

I know there's a little bit of a glow, and I'll redo in another program later because right now I have to go out and start my truck so that it will make it through another miserable night! . . . we don't have engine block heaters here!

Everybody got their violins out? LOL

6 degrees F?? WOW! That's a heatwave up here in February! LOL If it goes below -10C here, we plug in the ol' block heater. ;) Here's a tip for you, Helene: as long as you keep the vehicle out of the wind, your truck will always start. So I hope you have a garage to put it in. And about your radiator; always (winter AND summer) use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. Always! You'll never freeze your engine block AND you'll never boil over. Just thought you'd like to know from someone who knows cold! :)

Thank you for the good advice, Jack! I just wasn't ready for this. Apparently, yesterday it had warmed just enough to start some melting, and then the temp plummetted and had encased a lot of stuff in ice. I couldn't open the door on the passenger side. After trying to start it, I ran the battery down so had to call a mechanic to jump start it. So, to warm up everything in the truck, I drove around and took photos . . . might as well make the most of it! mechanic said that was all he was dealing with . . . cars not wanting to start. Lots of them with "frozen radiators" . At least I had enough antifreeze in mine, thank God! Would hate to have to dip into my "lens fund" !

I would be happy to stand out in 6^ weather for the scenery you have. Much better than the boring flatland of Illinois. We have two things here in my area, cornfields, and cornfields. 60mile round trip to Chris's doctor in a big city on Friday. Both of us are hoping to get a couple of shots other than snow, we shall see.
