Day 74 - No Second Chances

Made up my mind what kind of shot I wanted to do, waited for a break in the rain after sunset, went out and took my time... set up the tripod, worked the focus into what I wanted, assessed the settings, and... 1 shot. Pretty much got accomplished what I wanted to get accomplished. Nothing fancy, but then again, I wasn't going for the end all shot of the day. ;)

Now, back to editing yesterday's family photo outing... *yawn*

I like the blue effect you got here :D

Day 75 - Deliberate Randomness

Y'know, I wish I hadn't already made that goofy 2nd entry in the abstract challenge. :) Either way... anything can be made into beauty with the right eye. Say for instance, a small dip bowl combined with an old diner style table earns ya a bit o' this.

Nothing says you can't delete and resubmit an entry (though I think that should be a rule). That's usually while I wait until the end of the month unless I stumble onto something definite. Right now I've got 5 entries (one submitted), and 3 ideas I'm still working on. LOL

Day 77 - Playing With My Food

Yup, always gotta return to food every once in a while, since I did name the thread after snacks. ;)

Used a red-orange saucer, a Halo mandarin orange, and the wife's antique drop-leaf table to create yet another abstract. I'm enjoying these whether anyone else is or not!

Orange you glad I'm eating healthy??

Just a tweaked B&W of the same shot.

And a little playing around with a mix of the two.

Day 78 - Sunset Serenade

Someone very dear to me was discussing abstract art over dinner, talking about how "stupid" it was, just a way to say "I don't know how to focus", etc. I just excused myself from the rest of the evening and came home in a "not so motivated" kind of funk. Ok, defeated is probably more like it. No thought behind the shots tonight, no goal, no purpose... I just went out in the back yard to see if I could even find the thrill at all.

This little lady stopped by, tilted her head as she gave me a look, then stood up tall and started to chatter. She's just a sparrow. Not the most amazing voice in the bird kingdom, to say the least, but she didn't care. Chirp, chirp, chatter, chirp. Queen of her domain, silhouetted by the sun.

In the midst of defeat, I found the thrill again.

Don't forget. Shoot for yourself. Who cares what everyone else thinks. Unless of course its a paying gig.

Day 79 - blah...

LONG day, BIG headache, NO motivation... captured a shot of the computer screen over my son's shoulder and went to bed.

Day 80 - migraine day 2

Product shot? Usually my flash images come out better, but couldn't think straight through the migraine haze, so you get what I got, which is... blegh.

Day 81 - FLASH!

Wanted to try out the flash focus assist in a very dark setting, one shot and take what I got, but as I put the flash on the camera, a wee one remembered WAYYYYYYY back when she got a treat for every flash, so here's what I had to deal with until she got her pic taken and the subsequent treat. Then, I popped outside and shot some of the first blooms of Spring, one shot. It didn't come out TOO horribly. Had the flash compensation at a negative for some reason. Don't remember why, but still came out all right.

Not sure why, but my time settings seem to be going crazy in the camera. The Day 81 pic was actually taken between 10 and 11p.m. one day, but shows just after midnight the following day. Thinking I must have been out of it more than I thought, I went and checked the clock in the camera just a bit earlier, and it was nearly an hour and 45 minutes ahead. Reset it, took a few pics this afternoon for Day 82 (next post), and checked as I was editing, it was 10 mins ahead already? SSSSSSTRANGE. Anyone else have this issue with Nikons? Gonna pull the battery out overnight, see if I can reset things.

Day 82 - Back Yard Birding

Spring is settling in, so the birds are out in full force. Why not spend a bit outside tracking them down with the 70-300 VR?

1st, the ever elusive cardinals. They just don't like to hang out in easy to shoot areas. The little female was even harder to catch a glimpse of than the male (who happened to be defending his rights to the lady from a couple of other interested parties.)

Day82-1.jpg

Day82-3.jpg

Day82-9.jpg

Caught a few of the European Starlings all gossiping together on the balcony of the birdie condo.

Day82-2.jpg

This Mockingbird flew down on a favorite spot of the fence to chatter for a while.

Day82-4.jpg

He scolded me a bit as I got closer.

Day82-5.jpg

Then gave me a perfectly in focus shot of his rump.

Day82-6.jpg

I got his attention back by attempting to mimic his song choice of the day.

Day82-7.jpg

And as I was changing angles on him, I got a good shot of the colors on the starlings.

Day82-8.jpg

The sparrows are starting to get used to me, and are letting me get fairly close. This lass is still in her winter down...

Day82-10.jpg

...as is this fuzzy little male.

Day82-12.jpg

He was just trying to get warm in the sunlight, so didn't even seem to be bothered at all by my presence.
