Perhaps it's because I've gotten a little lax...it is so easy to glance at the image on a DSLR to check exposure that it isn't so critical to meter like it used to be. However, I do miss using a darkroom. There's nothing like the smell of chemicals, watching images appear on paper, and bumping into others when first walking into the dark. :beguiled: (Took a class for darkroom printing). ;)

I shot a bit all last summer. Not much to shoot in the winter here, well more so that I don't spend as much time outside really. I've got the GSN and x-700 loaded and ready for a day out on Monday :)

Finally broke down and decided to retire my fullsize Velbon tripod that I bought while stationed in South Korea - in 1984. (I had replaced the ballhead though.) I received my new black MeFOTO RoadTrip Air Travel Tripod yesterday. First impressions are extremely positive! The new twist mechanism is very slick and saves a lot of space. The ballhead is Arca compatible and works perfectly with the grip for my X-T2.

Better Beamer - finally got around to ordering one. It's supposed to be here today so I'll some time to play withit before the M&G next week.

Speaking of this thread, finally caught the right price 18/2 Fuji for my X-Pro1 to try food gigs with an even lighter setup than the Df and 24-85 and it was (obviously) successful. 18-55's size would've killed its portability, and the 27 I have for it is a pain to do group shots with, aside from plastic'y feel.

Replaced the QR plate on my Manfrotto tripod with an Arca Swiss clamp. Now all my tripods are interchangeable.

Got a day in the city and stopped in my favourite shops. At "The Camera Store" picked up a used Lensbaby Composer Pro with "Edge 80" optic.

took just few sample pictures trying to get the hang of it. It is 100% manual with no electrical contact with the camera. F stop set on the lense. The front element also pulls out to make it macro. Need to spend more time with it. It came as is used, no manual or anything else. have a little research to do. But a fun lens when I want to play with something completely different.

AND I got over to Strobe-Pro which is just for lighting. (So much so I kept calling them Studio-Pro). Bought a second X60 - aka Godox V860 flash. GN=60, TTL, HSS, Lithium Ion battery with extremely fast recycle and they claim 600 1:1 flashes per charge. And I was not done yet, added a sturdy boom equipped light stand.

I had mentioned buying this "16' Rotatable Boom Stand" when I was in Calgary earlier this month
At 16' this is a big stand - way oversized for in home use - unless you have high vaulted ceilings. To get to 16" the boom is mounted vertically as an vertical extension. Folded up the box is 48" long and it just fits. It is holding my Godox AD-360 like it wasn't there. The battery pack serves as a counter balance - would be even better if the cord was longer.

The sample shot is of one of my wife's antiques - a child's wooden rocking horse from a time when such toys were works of art. Love the woodworking craftsmanship on this horse.

At $129 from Strobe-Pro in Calgary this is one very heavy duty (and heavy to carry) stand that would be stable enough even fully extended, depending on the weight of the light on the end. Certainly a small strobe or a speedlight or two on the end will be like nothing is there. A big softbox would add a light weight - and a sail effect in the wind.

It is absolutely fabulous. I like the variety of uses such as on uneven ground, different hights. close to the ground,close up-s on the table to put the cam in different positions, etc..

After watching this VDO my decision was so sure:

Getting back into photo mode, so finally replaced my cheap tripod with something worthwhile! Testing in store, this thing makes it where the 6'3" bald guy no longer has to stoop without even being at max height! Then, throw in the ability to get WAY low and a 90 degree fold out center column... MACRO SHOTS! Hahaha!

Also, until I sort out which ball head I want on it, I went with one from Cowboy Studios that many people love, is budget priced, and will hold up to 17.5lbs of equipment. A real ball head will be coming soon, though. Anyone suggest a winning ball head for ~100 or less?

Non-camera purchase.

Vintage Panasonic 88a stereo speakers. I have to crack them open to see if the cones are still good or if they need refurbishing or replacing. They may be dead for all I know.
Maybe I can sell the grills for what I paid for the speakers. Dunno... I will find out.

Not actually a purchase since it was a gift, but o got a new monopod! Well, a new to me used monopod. It's a Gitzo , G1558 Mk2. A friend has one just like it and I have commented on it several times, so when he found this one for sale he bought it for me!
