Took in the Edmonton Photography Trade Show put on my McBain's Camera today. It wasn't a large show but still managed to spend a few dollars and bought a Lowe Pro "Pro Roller x200 AW". We googled up the max dimensions allowed for carry on luggage and this one should be allowed. A couple inches shorter on all dimensions. And at $350 a bit of a bargain (lists $479 (US$?)). I wish I had had it for the recent trip to Ontario we just took.

Now to configure it to hold what I typically take on a trip.

Now this may not be the place to post a story about what I didn't buy but here it goes anyway.

Looked at and was sorely tempted . . . but could not pry open my wallet wide enough to buy the Sigma Artsy 20mm 1.4 lens - took this shot of my dearly beloved looking into the Sigma display case

Then we moseyed on over to the next booth and saw an LAOWA 15mm tilt lens. ( LAOWA 15mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro Lens | LAOWA Camera Lenses - Venus Optics ) and had to give it a go. Also tried out their 12mm 2.8. These copies are the first in Canada or so the saleman claimed, no sale as they were not yet available for sale at least not in Canada. This sample is from the 15mm F4. These are both fully manual lenses and will take some time to master I am sure.

One of the reasons I had gone to the show was to learn more about portable lighting kits and maybe buying one. I didn't get one (will post about that in the forums).
Getting a nice portable system is still on my wish list.
Here I am not buying this strobe light kit.

Neither do the thieving lens hoods (especially the bayonet types). Huh, maybe they steal each other:rolleyes:
I bought a lens hood for my 18-55 kit lens this summer.
For the longest time I thought it just slipped on and off. Kind of silly, I thought.
A couple of weeks ago I was in some old growth woods we are trying to save from destruction.
I took my camera along for the salamander and reptile inventory, my hood fell off somewhere.
A few days later we were back for a tree inventory. When I came out at the end, there was my hood sitting on the organization table! I was so happy.
After I got it home and was cleaning it up, I began wondering why it had so many intricate pieces.
I put it on the lens and turned it as normal, then I tried pushing it a little more.
VOILÀ!

Now it stays where it should!

Now I just have to buy a replacement cap (a previous trip to a different woods...)

This was one of those "Don't need it But..." deals.

I was wandering around a local pawnshop while waiting for a training seminar to begin. In the camera case was the pictured lens. It had a $20 price tag so I asked what was wrong with it. The rather Interesting looking employee told me the Macro switch was broke. I asked to look at it and if I could bring my camera in and check if everything else worked. He said yes, so I took a few shots. Everything worked fine so I bought it. After all, it was $20!! When I got home I did some research and found out it will only go into macro when zoomed to 50mm or more. Turns out everything on it works fine! Don't know if I will use it, but Score!!!

Managed to pick up an SB400 in mint condition for £60. I don't need anything more powerful so that will be used when the pop up flash is not suitable.

When I was about 15 and started pushing a shutter button just for fun, I saved up enough allowance to buy a brand-spankin' new Pentax K1000 with a 50mm 1.7 lens. Soon after, the disease spread and I upped to an MX. I then paired that with an ME Super and had an entire suite of lenses, from the 17/4 fisheye to a 500mm.

After truly enjoying them for years, I eventually lost the passion and sold it all on ebay. Even after getting back into photography with digital, I never forgot how much fun I had shooting with my MX and MES. For the longest time, I pondered about getting back into 35mm film by finding the cameras and lenses I had sold and buying them back. Instead, I decided to 'replicate' the MX and MES with a Nikon FM2n and FG so I could use many of my legacy Nikkors on them and not have to spend a ton of money on more lenses.

Well............. all that went out the window last week. I stopped by the local brick-n-mortar store, and was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar camera............ a Pentax ME Super........... in the used film gear case. Upon closer inspection, it wasn'tan ME Super. It was a Super Program. But damn, it was in mint condition! The seals and mirror foam were perfect, the shutter speeds sounded right......... and it looked like it was just out of the box for the first time.

Price: $125.

OK, I had the funds, so what the hell! But what good is a film body with no lens? Well, as providence would have it, they also had a 28/2.8 and 135/2.5 in the case. Again, both in pristine condition. $30 and 40 respectively.

However, I couldn't talk them into breaking up either of the K1000/50mm pairs they sell to the local college students in order to complete my purchase with the 50mm. But for less than two hundred clams, I've got a fantastic-looking camera and 2 lenses.

Now I'm on a quest to find a minty fifty to round things out. That should satisfy my gear addiction for the rest of 2016 as those 3 lenses took probably 95% of my old Kodachrome 25 images.

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhkaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

So I've spent my allowance.
