Decided to get this lens last night. Should get it sometimes next week. I've read such great reviews about it that I couldn't wait any longer.

Very nice. I just read a review of several wides, including the Zeiss 21mm, and the Nikkor beat it out in both center and edge resolution. The contrast comparison wasn't defined, but the Nikkor represented the brand well there, too. It's on my long short list of lenses that I want!

To any Doctors or other medical workers here! I really recommend the 3M Littmann brand stethoscopes, and the Master Cardiologist model most of all! Very nice craftsmanship and works extremely well with some great features! For the record I bought mine for $145.00 plus shipping, which was a great deal for a new one by the way. Not too expensive for the top of the line model even at the regular price around $215.00, in comparison to photography gear anyway!;)

Though with my beloved so sick it is hard to get very excited about a good deal, I picked up a second Littmann's master cardiology stethoscope used for $53.00 counting shipping yesterday. I don't believe the seller realized just what he had and what it is worth, even used. Just for the record, this model runs $100.00+ even used, and so I now got two great deals on these stethoscopes.
This one has black tubing, and I figure it will be a great one to keep with my blood pressure cuff.:)

My latest purchases: (Photography related)
Nikon 200-500mm lens, due to be picked up from the store on Monday or Tuesday.
Nikon TC-14EII 1.4x teleconverter, barely used, 200 bucks, which is fully compatible with the 200-500, giving me a functionally 280-700mm equivalent lens when I choose to use it.
Nikon D810 in need of some repairs that I can handle, 775 dollars shipped.

Non-photography related purchases: Five Tektronix oscilloscope chassis in various states of complete/partially parted out, none fully working, but they will sell for about 5X what I paid for them. Stuff like this is what I make my income off of.

No idea what it does but it looks good for the money :D

Lol! Should have been a little more specific with what it does. ;) It will trigger off camera flash via this remote or simply trigger the shutter remotely. This offers a much greater distance between the camera and me when triggering the shutter instead of Nikon's remote. I found the Nikon remote shutter release to be very limiting with its distance--plus the Nikon one doesn't work so well when standing behind the camera.

Have a friend selling some gear to fund the X-Pro2. He made me an unbelievable couldn't walk away from cash deal on his X-E2. I was thinking of a backup body for our big anniversary trip in May to Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro so the timing was perfect. I'm planning on taking the X-T1 as we'll be island hopping. I think I'll be thinning the herd this summer - especially if the X-T2 is released as expected.

well it's not easy carrying a F4s or F5 onto a public bus so I've been looking for a compact 35mm film camera. So after much research I got myself an Olympus LT 1 105 zoom. Good lookin' and I dig the metal lens.Consumer reports #1. Lots of good chatter on forums. Here it is wrapped in faux leather(burgundy). Oh yeah they're really inexpensive!

Nikkor 80-200mm Ai F/4.5 N.Yes the one with the square baffle. Dang what a super lens! Single ring push pull turn. I can even use my pinky to adjust it. Yeah it's gonna get lots of use. Came with a case too!

Good, (not so) old telephoto. Very sharp even at the largest apertures, very accurate and fast AF... A hundred bucks, mint condition (purchased from the guy who virtually haven't been using it).

Finally got it! I haven't yet made more than a few test shots with it.
But I did already get the tripod mount modified for something unique I'm working on. More on that...when I'm ready to show it.

Very nice and it's really a fine lens. One of my faves. Enjoy using it!
I also have this lens but found out that it doesn't seem to focus at infinity on my cameras anyway. But whenever the subject is within a few hundred feet, it's sharp and fast.

My latest purchase is a Nikon D810.

Purchase price $775 delivered to my door.

D810busted.jpg

This is what I received.

But, no worries, I knew it was like that when I bought it.

The goal: FIX IT.

It still works, except for the obvious lens mount damage.

I've received it, analyzed the damage, already have the replacement front plastic, and have determined that the mirror box is beyond repair. So it has to be replaced.

I've ordered a replacement mirror box.

The catch is, in surgical terms this is like saying you need a new spine. The mirror box is what everything else is built around, pretty much.

Absolutely no issues here. This is not a difficult repair, it's just a time consuming one. My parts should be here in about two weeks and then a pleasant (or frustrating, possibly) afternoon at work on it and I should have a nice D810 for my trouble, with less than 1000 dollars invested in it.

I've already done about 3/4 of the disassembly, which involves removing the top, bottom, back, front, and sides from the camera. I'll leave the rest for when the replacement mirror box is in hand.

I already have a D800, and it's very interesting to compare the two: Though the two cameras are very similar, NOTHING is really the same. No outside assembly will interchange. No inner assembly will, either.

Frankly I think that's either very crappy or very smart of Nikon, depending on your point of view. It does keep people from turning a D800 into a fake upgraded D810. But having to make all new everything also means that the D810 must be more expensive than if they had just produced more D800 parts, thus benefitting from the benefits of large scale production economy.

Anyway, I'm sure to have fun with this. Fixing stuff like this is something I really enjoy doing.

Oh yeah, today I also picked up a Canon AE-1 Program and two original, in the box, Canon focusing screens, type B and E, for the AE-1 Program, for a song from a guy who wanted to sell his old stuff. Sadly I have spent too much money lately and could not buy the rest of his camera bag for anything that I would have considered to be a non-insulting price. Or I would have.

I now have three AE-1 Programs. I guess I'm stockpiling them. Actually they sell pretty well on ebay if they're clean and in good working shape. I'll make a little profit on them.
