I just read the first page of this thread then skipped to page 10. Fascinating topic jump, there.

My wife and I have lost a combined ~130 lbs, primarily through eating better, though exercise is playing a part, too. You can do it!

It's amazing how many foods shouldn't seem that bad, but actually are. And it's sad how bad going out to eat is, at least here in the US. Restaurants serve portions that should cover two meals or more.

That said, I still eat ice cream and I just drank a Coca-Cola. But it's all in moderation. I used to drink two cans of Coke a day (total 24 oz); now I drink two or three cans a week. I didn't do that as part of the diet, I did it because I was having issues with sensitive teeth, but cutting out 320 calories a day doesn't hurt a bit.

I did slip up this morning and have a sausage biscuit at McDonalds but I had a 8am shoot that was an hour away and it was outside in this heat so I sweated it all out before noon.

2 weeks in and I have lost 8 pounds. I am pretty happy. Another 50 pounds and I will be ready for that photo in my speedo to post here. LOL

If you keep going on that speed you just need more 13 week or 3 month to get your goal. I know on the paper are many things easier. I cross the fingers that you keep on the track

Late to the thread but I'm in the same boat. Struggled with weight most of my life, but kept it off with diet and exercise until I got back up to 240 lbs in my forties ( a lot for 5' 6"). Hit the booze hard for years after I lost my daughter, empty carbs really pack it on! A couple years ago I lost 60 lbs on a low carb diet and exercise. I avoided all grains/rice/pasta/bread/pasta for about 4 months. Once I hit my goal I allowed myself to have a carb item at 1 meal a day. I kept it off for over a year, but then I got lazy and carbs slipped back in. I gained back 40lbs. So now I'm 51, back at 220 and need to get down to 170. Started back on the low cabs and exercise last week and I'll weigh in Monday. Low carb worked great for me, although it's not always convenient.

I just started the runtastic app which tracks all kinds of exercise and gives a lot of data feedback. It also automatically posts your results to FB if you want, which I have found is somewhat motivational. I feel obligated to post an exercise activity each day. I'll continue here too for even more accountability :).

When my wife and I got married I was 6'2" and weighed 135lbs. I was skin and bones. I started gaining excessive weight when I started having problems walking and eventually had to have a knee replacement. Time to get back into shape.

I guess I overlooked this thread as well. I was in Cooperstown during this time, oh well.

Well, count me in as well. Love my beer and carbs, which put me at 250. Not bad but I am only 5'8 which is bad. When I got married 25 years ago, I was 185 and would love to see that again but I lived at the gym.

I need to watch what I eat, back off the beer and no carbs. I was planning on starting a plan soon but taking it a step at a time. Quit diet cokes about a week and half, only put honey in a cup of coffee a day, so wanted to get past the headaches from lack of diet cokes. I will still have a glass of tea for an afternoon boost, but no sodas.

Hope to hit the treadmill in the morning and everyday, going to take it slow because if I don't then I go overboard and suffer burnout. Also have to watch the shoulder, haven't had surgery yet, so weights will be slow and easy for a bit

Good luck everyone, I will make sure to follow a little more closely now that baseball is over.

I'm 62 years old and 6'6' tall, at my largest i was 288 lbs. In he last 6 months I've spent 80 days in the hospital getting a heart pump installed, during that time Ive gotten as low as 205, not a good thing. My doctors have told me I need to drink more water and can eat almost anything and I've only put 15 lbs back on. I've been unable to get out and do much so i read all the posts on nikontes and am trying to retain all the ideas and photo tips I've read. My photo ops are few and far between, but after I get my heart transplant I'll be back up and at it, I have all kinds of ideas and trips planned to make up for lost time. Keep up the informative posts, the knowlegdge is great, and in a year or so I'll be back out there. Thanks again

Keep up the good work everyone.

After the best part of a week off last week (mum-sitting duties) I finally managed to hit the gym on Friday, so I concentrated on lifting heavy, and the compound lifts (I just did a conversion and I can now do 100lb bench press - ooooh that sounds so much MORE than the 45kg LOL, and the 200lb I can deadlift sounds much more impressive than the 90Kg). - well no squats for me cos of my knee... and this weekend was a weekend of plenty of walking... my pedometer read 20,000+ steps Friday, Saturday AND Sunday...
I need to get my diet / weightloss back into gear... I have 10 months before hubby and I are heading to Florida, and I want to be in a good shape by then! Well at least drop a "dress size" or two
