I have to be fair and say that the Nikon Tech's have expedited the repairs all 3 times and I had approximately a 1 week turn around time.

Well, turnaround time does not equal problem solved does it? That is the main problem, they kept cleaning sensors when they should have been doing more... And it took quite a while before they admitted that a problem was real. They did try to give us the runaround.

I am happy that Nikon is trying to make up on their short comings. It is the right thing to do and hopefully this will recover the bitter taste that it left with its costumers.

Guess I spoke for mine too soon, though this is the first time I've noticed these little guys so far-

mostly along the right hand side on the white. Tested it against the wall, same thing. Another lens, same thing. I did shoot @f/22-29 @10-25 seconds though, else I haven't seen these guys at anything less than these.

So to properly understand this, when are you guys getting spots exactly? Right off the bat or when you do longer exposures?

But think its time to worry or maybe get a cleaning kit, clean it, and see how it goes first?

On a flip side, I suppose sending it off now would minimize the return wait time and it'll be ready for the spring for sure.

That is not what I've heard. I've read that the problem came from some kind of inside finish or tape that kind of dampened the mirror. This tape started flaking and did get stuck between shutter blades. Now before they realized what this had caused, they started cleaning and replacing this tape, but... there were still some pieces of "stuff" between shutter blades and the dust (particles) were getting back on the other side of the shutter after some actuations. This is why I think the phenomena was amplified by those who were shooting high frame per second burst often. The mirror flapping was just shoveling the stuff back.

A Canadian Nikon rep told me that the shutter blades that are used in the D610 is basically the same as the one in the D600. Having known this person for a while, I'm inclined to believe him.

Now, problems to arise with any human made things. We've had bridge collapsing, Nuclear plants go bezerk, all kinds of problems and recalls with cars, so we should keep a little bit of perspective with this one. But, this didn't excuse Nikon Service Centers to treat their customers the way they did. On this last point, they are 125% wrong all the way.

I believe Marcel's post best tells us what is going on. If the the bits of stickey tape are coming off of the mirror, and are thrown on the sensor, it would seem very hard to clean them off, as the bits have a stickey side. My D600 is the very best camera I have ever used, and I hope Nikon's Service Center is able to solve this problem.

Hard to tell from the 1000px photo, but it looks like it could be shutter debris - but it could just as easily be something else. The concentration on the edge is disconcerting. If a rocket blower clears it then it's not related to the oil issue as that should be sticky. If it doesn't go away and you have the opportunity to send it in then I'd probably take advantage of it.

Any shot you can give us a crop of the concentration of them against a white background?

All I know is its not debris! Debris/dust are dark opaque spots the ones prevalent in the D600 are translucent and round/symmetrical liquid.

Sent my in as well, they should have it Monday and then going to cross fingers that turnaround time is 10 days or so. Figured I'd go ahead and get this done before the spring really starts up because I won't have time to wait around then.

My D600 has been sent in and the camera has been received by Nikon, LA. I'm awaiting a reply from Nikon. I see that a few others have also sent in their cameras. Please post your progress, as I promise to do the same.

So NY center got mine on Monday, and sent a confo email today. No need for me to do anything but sit and wait. Gonna hope it won't take forever on this one.

I'm awaiting a confirmation email. Mine was received by the Nikon Los Angels facility, yesterday. I got a UPS delivery email. So, I know that Nikon has it.

I shipped mine on February 27, it was received by Nikon on March 4th, at 9:15AM. No confirmation E-Mail as yet. I have no idea on the turn-around time. Patience…Maybe.....

Just gonna hope that the NY center operates on NY beat- time is money, even when repair is free, so get 'er done and get 'er out like clockwork. In that sense, west coast stuff might be more mellow and central center... no idea.
