Deezy Western Toads have a nasty toxic substance on their skin that protects them from pretty much everything but Ravens which I think will eat anything! No prince for this one LOL but once it thaws probably end of April, Croaky will go back outside and fend for itself once again.

Nikonpup thats great haha she is a bit Walter Matthau -ish! Impossible to get catch lights because you can't really see her weird light coloured eyes which ends up looking creepy

Piperbarb Thanx she is actually cute and floppy wonderfulness in person but she isn't terribly photogenic. Hubby spent hours brushing her up and making her pretty but you'd never know it :) I like my dogs to be larger than my cats but smaller than my horses hehe

I'd never seen a moose in person except in wildlife parks etc until we moved here 4yrs ago. Those that live in town actually see them far more often then us because the moms keep the young ones near people where the predators don't often venture. That little one was quite wet so must have just come up from the river. They are impossibly gangly and huge at the same time with that odd shaped funny face :)

I look forward to seeing your photos of your animals every day. I do worry about them freezing to death though.

Haha these are Canadian critters

No seriously I'm all set up with blankets, heat lamps etc ready if they look like they're in need of some extra help for warmth. I have to collect eggs every 45mins because otherwise they freeze and crack on me

I was just wondering who among our group is the furthest north? You say that you are in Northern BC, Canada. I know that most of the Canadians live within 100 miles or so from the Northern Border of the US.

I don't know Don. There are more towns further north of us but we're about 720kms from the closest US border crossing. The first bridge that I was under in pics above is hwy 97 which is what is called the Alaska Hwy as it goes through the town north of us. My brother works quite often in Fort Mcmurray Alberta and it is more north than where I live but then he lives quite a bit south of me hahaha I often joke that we live in the Arctic but on the map we live right smack in the middle of BC. We are actually from Victoria, Vancouver Island and I spent some of my childhood in Halifax Nova Scotia so it feels like we now live in the Arctic :)

The polar vortex completely missed our province this year so we've had a very mild winter so I think you guys have had a worse winter than us. Kids were excited today because anything colder than -24C is an "in day" which means they don't have to wait for bells to enter school and lunchtime is spent inside instead of outside playing. They've had very few "in days" this year and warming up to -18C tomorrow so outside play for them LOL

But seriously the sunshine the last couple of days has been most welcome and so beautiful

I was going to say that. We've had some very cold days, but wait, it's winter! :)

Wasn't Dawson's Creek a TV Series?

Yes there was a TV show I didn't watch it so not sure if was based in BC or not.

Actually the brown fuzzy boy is the one I worry about most since he's about 21yrs old now and they have a life expectancy of 15yrs. I brought coats out this morning and horses turned backs on me and headed to the back of the field. They have frost on outer coat but if you feel them they are warm warm warm to touch. They have shelters and 24hr access to as much hay as they want (which is why they have a healthy layer of blubber hahaha) and I also feed grain and alfalfa. Smokey my grey gelding dropped his manly parts to air them out this morning and I was afraid he wouldn't get it back in again LOL That photo will have hubby groaning at me hahaha

This morning as I opened the nest box to check for eggs I caught a hen in there. I only got the one shot and thought it ok but as I looked I wondered just how much I could crop it without turning it into a disaster.
Original as shot with my 70-300mm

I look forward to seeing your shots of your menagerie every day. Having never lived where there is snow and also having never even lived outside of city limits I find it very interesting and I learn things new every day. Like the fact these animals can live and survive in a place that cold.
