Had fun this evening practicing with my heavy (for me) 70-300mm. I find it difficult to keep steady but see so many lovely bird shots in the Bird thread so need to do some practicing for Spring in a few months

Setting sun so threw some COB and got comfy as possible while I waited patiently for them to settle down, get brave enough to check out the treats spread out a bit

Fetch- not sure why lab cross thinks we need our wood pile relocated to the front yard or huge balls of frozen horse poo brought up to decorate the front yard Grrr but figured I'd play some fetch with the brat before I hauled it all back again

Shutter 1/1600 didn't quite get it

NIK_1145.jpg
upped shutter to 1/3200 and that stopped them
I've been struggling all year trying to get a good dog shot while they are moving. The problem is they move so darn fast and in a blink they're in front of me not to mention brown one is really floppy so always seems to be blurred a bit never really sharp unless she's sitting nicely for me. So I think the trick is 1/3200 shutter :)

As you can see black dog back to moving wood pile and everything else he can find to my front yard Ugh drives me crazy!

Had my 70-300 still on my camera when I found kids playing on the once ice covered trampoline.
Did a little shutter practicing but really should have switched to continuous instead of single shutter Oops
Boots down, ice up

Moose Calf- I have never come across a moose and wished I'd brought a smaller lens but thats what happened this morning. Baby was about 10ft from my van in the first shot. I am not strong enough to hold the 70-300mm steady unless at very high shutter speeds but with my van running and logging trucks, semis flying by me on the hwy I was really struggling to stay steady. Wish the sun rose today but it took the day off again today sigh. Mom never showed herself but I was not taking on a momma moose this morning :)

Sigh really could have used my 50mm this morning so I could lower my shutter a bit. I'd brought my 70-300mm because there is another cow/calf pair hanging around my kids school and brought my big lens in case I got lucky.
Oh for size she was small only about the size of grown mule deer

Oh well these are landscapes so hopefully they don't look terribly over sharpened and yucky like my previous animal shots
