Softer sky

We haven't had any sun the past two days. Everything is just shades of gray. The yard usually has color at night from all the solar lights but without sun, no lights.

Yah this warm weather has the clouds hanging low and the sun hasn't been able to show itself for awhile. Not great weather for breathing but does give very colourful sun sets if the sun can get through a bit.

Each year we take in the Festival of Trees which is a fund raiser for our local hospital. So many trees donated and decorated to take in.

Plane tree donated by airport :) Soooo much Disney stuff as well as an amazing Disney Vacation

Tim Hortons penguin tree with amazing gifts under the tree. Last year Timmies had a big bird tree we look forward to seeing with they do each year

This shot was trouble for me with those bright bright work lights and otherwise darkness. The vacations and experiences included with this was amazing! Blue Jays game, family yearly passes to major ski resort, big golf tournament vacation, Canuck hockey games… Each frame is an amazing experience not to mention that lovely Cat :)

I don't like to photograph strangers so going on a Saturday afternoon was not a great idea LOL It took a lot of patience but they had a great craft workshop for the kids so they kept busy while I waited for breaks in the people :)

Wish I could have taken a step back to catch that shot so his ear wasn't cut off but I was leaned up against daughters mare and if I'd asked her to move I'd have missed it completely

Night lights
NIK_8500.jpg

After going through photos of my monsters skating (falling LOL) on the ice rink I found this one I shot as we left. Inside the building is the festival of trees which I took photos of last weekend

Michael I have my camera set so I choose the focus point and it did pretty well even though it was really quite dark. Those LED lights really don't produce much light, just a weird glow. I did have some trouble with the skaters because one end of the rink was quite dark. I really like my 35mm just most of the time I wish it was wider :)

I think you did a great Job. More and more I get the idea to buy a 35mm. I want to take photos from the performance of my daughter on the stage and the light-conditions not that great.

Thank you so much Snaphappy showing your great photos

Just wanna know do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

I usually shoot Raw but switched to jpeg fine for these as my card was getting full. These and the tree festival were all low light and no flash with my 35mm. Later when my kids were skating I played with longer exposures and got some interesting blurred skating figures and made people disappear, I also played with high iso. I'd still prefer not to use high iso but it was nice to be able to catch the shot I'd other wise miss in the dark. A year ago I would filled an SD card and been unhappy with nearly all of them. This year I spent more time watching and enjoying everything and captured most of the shots I wanted so I'm pleased with my progress in the last 10mnths :)
The 35mm 1.8G is a really nice low cost lens and I really like it. I just wish it was wider... I have a 50mm 1.8D and its such a nice tiny easy to throw in your pocket lens but I find I don't use it often because usually when I'm doing low light or wanting the sharpness I want the wider 35mm.

Late afternoon frozen lake
It got a chilly around here but warmed up to -17 yesterday and no wind so we bundled up and went for a walk after school
NIK_8549.jpg

Too cold to snow and heavy winds have made the lake pure ice on top

NIK_8563.jpg

Someone was out ice fishing and pulled a sled in the slushy ice and its frozen again making a neat path on the ice

NIK_8543.jpg

Moose crossed the lake when it was slushy on top and tracks froze

NIK_8653.jpg

Good night sunshine

2km walk on frozen solid uneven snow makes for a harder than normal walk LOL

over 2hrs in -17C and camera did great even the battery was fine. My only problem was my breath on the back because it fogged and froze on the view finder and LCD screen making it hard to check my light meter and check my focus point because of the fogging. Lens was fine until I got back to the vehicle and then I guess because the sudden moisture in the air from our breath in the enclosed vehicle it frosted over
