Today I was fiddling with WB and whites. I went out trying to capture the glittering snow but just couldn't quite get it

Risk W she is a purebred AKC Newfoundland just not a proper colour. Cocoa is the result of parents that both carried recessive genes for grey and brown leaving her a weird grey brown colour so she looks like a greyish grizzly bear. She also had an unfortunate stay at a boarding kennel last summer where they allowed to swim in a drying clay pond for a week and never once turned a hose on her so her coat met my horse clippers and she hasn't got her big feathery tail or mane back yet.
We also have a 12yr old Landseer Newf cross and the ferocious fella playing with Cocoa is a Shiloh Shepard who at 31inches at the shoulder is our "small" dog.

Todays project was using up some eggs and trying food photos

I had to crop hands out of this pic as the hungry hands were grabbing for it like they'd never been fed before!

I don't have any lighting equipment so had the under cupboard lighting (not helpful at all), Ceiling flourecent light and my camera flash. I tried different angles and just couldn't get a pic I liked without flash but flash left big light shines. I live in a white outside world half the year so my baking area is colourful :)
So here's the 2nd best of the bad (1st will go in monthly assignment)
NIK_6983.jpg

only got 1 chance at a plate because I had 3 monsters and hubby breathing down my neck waiting to be fed :) unfortunately focus was on the cake not on the plate which would have been better
NIK_6999.jpg

18 egg whites to make the angel food cake, 3 yolks to make the chocolate pudding which left puppy dogs getting a nice treat too
Now I'm hungry. :)

All those doing dinner pics for the assignment must not have the starved family members I have! Dinner was a just a quick throw together but dessert was YUMMY I just got my new mixer for Christmas and it was soooo much easier! I used to use my Grans mixer from the 60's turning the bowl continually and in my other hand I'd mix the other half of the whites in another bowl with a handheld mixer but even then the results were worth it :D

Just liked the light on the tree this morning as I poured my coffee
NIK_7163.jpg

Found our incredibly hardy plants (unkillable) were flowering today for the first time so thought I'd try closeup pics. It took some adjusting as the red wall behind is only 6 inches wide and at an angle (bay window), morning sun was just starting to come around and becomes very bright.

LOL thats what I thought DTigga. So wish I'd had it in better focus. The next snaps were quite funny as he tried get turned around and come down but also out of focus. He was about 20ft up and so polite to have his tail down for his picture :)

Thanx guys :) I'm reading what everyone says on the different threads and still just playing. Another week and I'll start my first photography course at the college so hopefully I'll get a better understanding of the mechanics and mostly lingo so I'll be able to understand the manual and things I read better :) I'm pretty excited to get started

I've been busy the last few days so not much chance to go through pics and PP but here's a couple from the weekend.
We count deer on this hill on every trip into town but I'm usually driving. Yesterday hubby was driving so I rolled down the window and did a drive by shooting at 90+kms :) Not great focus or composition but with light posts whizzing by I'm glad I was able to get them anyways
NIK_7781.jpg

NIK_7784.jpg

both taken with my 18-55mm lens and slight cropping to straighten pics as they were on a hill and we were going down a hill so I was a bit wonky

I was taking portraits of the family in the front yard when a nice big eagle started circling above. By the time I got my 70-300mm on though it'd moved on :( but this plane was taking off so got it :)

Yes Alpacas are very strange creatures you should hear the sounds they make when the moose come too close haha He does look like a messy carpet but under that insanely heavenly soft fibre is a teeny tiny creature and unfortunately they do not like to be touched or handled. These boys are old and spent most of their lives in a much warmer climate so I leave them with a big thick coat.
That shot took ALOT of moving, planning and then starting all over when he decided to move on me. He's a very very dark brown so unless the light hits him just right he just becomes a black oddly shaped creature. Then I have 3 houses that could have been in the shot and the horses have 2 favourite bathroom spots so not very white snow... Oh and being crouched down meant I needed to be climbed on by my nanny goat while her son checked all my pockets :) I only took 3 pics but liked that one the best.
