Quails are in a 18x48inch aquarium now that has a metal mesh lid like they use for reptiles etc. We just put them in a very small space at first to make sure they keep close to the light for warmth. They learn pretty quick where to go for warmth and then we can make their space larger.

These kitties are all new as I have lost all my old (17, 15 and 16yrs) girls in the last year :( Since the cats are all new we don't take chances and keep the little ones safe but they'll get used to the parade of peepers we'll have hatching over the next couple of months and won't be that interested. As long as the kitties keep interested in the many rodents that are out in the coops and barn I'll be happy :)

Yes Marilynne it is lemon meringue pie. My son brought in warm eggs and my fridge was full so we made some pie shells and filled one with mile high lemon meringue pie. My little monsters complain when the meringue is too dark so I do a smooth top and skip the curls :)

Nikonpup Thanx Hubbys toy is a snow blower as we definately have no need for a snow maker hahahaha A snow melter sure would be nice

Thats a great pic.

The red lights and rainbow (from UV filter?) could be edited out but it's a gorgeous dreamy pic.
Some might prefer more ground in but I love the composure and scene just as it is, beautiful!

I thought the same thing about the red lights as soon as I uploaded it. I didn't have a filter on for this because I had the tripod set up in my bathroom and was shooting out the window LOL Not sure why I got the little rainbow the moon was very bright but was on the other side of the barn
Heres the other shot I got. I got more snow in this photo but didn't get the darker sky above or as many stars in it. I only have a 35mm for night shots. I took out the red lights in the background and this one didn't have a rainbow

Today I was fiddling with WB and whites. I went out trying to capture the glittering snow but just couldn't quite get it

Today is more WB fiddling
Also have waaaay too many eggs
On my kitchen island with a big fluorescent light box above and me handholding camera Auto1 WB
NIK_6913.jpg

These are all my eggs in the fridge so no room for yesterdays or todays eggs

I tried all the other fluorescent WB options and found this one worked best for colour correctness (at least on my Mac pro) WB fluorescent 7 (High temp mercury-vapor)
NIK_6932.jpg

These were the oldest eggs and didn't fit in the above tub so they became todays try at the monthly assignment. Still haven't collected todays eggs so maybe eggs for dinner too LOL

I'm a complete amateur Rexer John LOL I don't know about white cards and WB  I've only ever done P&S so still working on the manual and just fiddling with settings but I have registered for a photography course at the College started March 19th woohoo Hopefully that will help my knowledge growth by giving me the lingo and terms making learning on my own a little easier :) So far my monthly assignment subject hasn't been a disaster so gotta set up tripod and see if I can get a pic now that its cooled and the second part made

Todays project was using up some eggs and trying food photos

I had to crop hands out of this pic as the hungry hands were grabbing for it like they'd never been fed before!
NIK_6997.jpg

I don't have any lighting equipment so had the under cupboard lighting (not helpful at all), Ceiling flourecent light and my camera flash. I tried different angles and just couldn't get a pic I liked without flash but flash left big light shines. I live in a white outside world half the year so my baking area is colourful :)
So here's the 2nd best of the bad (1st will go in monthly assignment)
NIK_6983.jpg

only got 1 chance at a plate because I had 3 monsters and hubby breathing down my neck waiting to be fed :) unfortunately focus was on the cake not on the plate which would have been better
NIK_6999.jpg

18 egg whites to make the angel food cake, 3 yolks to make the chocolate pudding which left puppy dogs getting a nice treat too

Today I wanted to try out bird in flight settings I'd read in a post by Backdoorhippie in a thread yesterday. Unfortunately my cheat with my geese didn't work as they refused to move at anything faster than a dawdle not to mention I messed up and left my WB on fluorescent Oops :(
So will have to try bird in flight again but found with choosing wrong WB black and white is my friend
NIK_7094.jpg

Settings did stop the propeller on the plane yippee think I'm on the right track and will try BIF again soon
