Yes he made me smile as I looked out the kitchen window this morning so had to get my camera :)

I took my camera out as I went to check on critters and was going to take some pics of my ducks but my youngest sons kitty had different ideas. My son picked this guy from the SPCA last spring and we were told he may have a hearing issue. Well the cat is completely stone deaf! Can't hear anything at all and so he's completely oblivious of the chaos he creates around him.
getting Romeo and Lucy goose all stirred up as he strolls along

now inside the duck pen to check for mice but stirring up the ducks

A few of my ducks decided to get out of the away from the scary cat LOL
NIK_4748.jpg

Sitting on top of the duck pen casually looking around without a care in the world while the ducks and geese are going nuts! I can't call him so just have to wait for him to turn towards me

Not a care in his quiet calm world

I really like that second to last picture of the cat. The blue sky at the back of him/her, really makes him/her stand out!

Thanx I was underneath so shooting up at the bluest sky above. Frosty the cool cat (must say whole name or 5yr gets upset) is rather camouflaged outside this time of year

As fugly as this guy is he's become my easiest subject because he moves slow and always stays close so as I fiddle to get settings right he's still close enough to try again :) Everynight lately when I got out to do chores he's roosting up on the ledge of my stall and I keep meaning to bring my camera because its warmed enough the CFL lights my barn work and his feathers look gold also when he's at rest his fugly head is white and blue instead of the bright red. By the time I got my messy chores done and brought my camera out though he'd flopped down and was strutting so he had his red head on

As I made dinner I looked out in the back yard and the trees were glowing. I had my 35mm on my camera so had to crop the buildings and trampoline out LOL
NIK_5434.jpg

The trees out back were glowing because this was out front (again cropped roofs etc out)

This is as far as I can go down as neighbour across the street had his logging truck parked on the road so shot above it

And my son candled his quail eggs this evening so I set up my tripod
NIK_5462.jpg

Quite often with our duck and chicken eggs we can see bills up in the air sac peeping but these eggs so tiny and shells so thick none tonight

Well, today I worked on focusing close up and playing with trying to light. This was a lesson in frustration as I just couldn't seem to get it right. We live rural so most windows have no coverings and since quail babies are getting ready to hatch I can't unplug and move them so had to work with what I had. I tried a few different flash lights in a few different positions and then switched to manual focus because Auto was driving me crazy!
So here's my best 2 pics of the first quail egg to pip

I'm definately going to need much more practice with this close up focusing stuff and proper lighting

Well, tried a couple of things today but working with a red heat lamp is impossible so had to plan, set things up then remove the cookie racks, bungee cords and heat lamp over the brooder. Then I shot, looked at pics, cursed and then reset up :) If I let my sons babies get cold I'd be in BIG trouble
First try hand held

Next I set up my tripod as high as I could safely make it. Stood on my 2 step stool, fiddled with settings and tried again

Good thing I never dreamed of being a hand model :)

yellow fluff in both chicks and ducklings means white or pale feather colour when older. These eggs came from mixed colours of cortunix quail so could end up with 6 different feather colours.

Yellow water is just vitamins in water for first couple days to be sure they're off to a good start

Ok these are snaps because I had 5 babies come out in less than 3mins! The last chick hatching was clearest and so guess first 4 were practice :)

Today I went out to do a daytime moon shot got my tripod all set up and my camera ready to go but clouds moved in on me. Icicles on the side of the barn were melting so moved and set up again. Last try at catching a drop was a complete disaster. This wasn't much better Shutter needs to be faster next time I think

NIK_5697.jpg

I had to practice Brokeh because not the prettiest location for icicles

Also had a photo shoot for my sons 4-H project this evening and here's one where my little monsters didn't feature. My old fella is such a good sport about everything

put your camera in continous release mode, much better chance of catching a drop versus single release.
