    A nice early-afternoon sun.

I did all of that Clovis. Been a bit lazy getting around to trying a stacked exposure. But I shot a big series moving the shutter speed around so I could investigate later what works well. The original for this was less exposed and I put a lot of post-processing effort in to bringing some...

Looking to buy a long zoom digital point and shoot camera

Nikon Coolpix P1000 is what comes to mind for me. Still available on Amazon. I think Lumix and Sony might have some competition. I have seen some good photos done with a P1000. I have always regarded it as birding camera.

    A nice early-afternoon sun.

14 months later and I finally take another try at this. Yes I'm experimenting to see how I expose this for the April 8 2024 eclipse. This time I really tried to dial in the focus with LiveView by zooming in on the few sunspots visible that day.

    HSN and Z lenses

Prices look at or a bit above street prices in most cases. But I'm working with the credit union to finance a new furnace for the home, so no camera gear for me in the near future.

Morning visitor to my little garden pond.

BBQ venison tonight? ;) Were you using the eye-detect autofocus on that one?

    Such a lot to learn?

Welcome to the forum! My personal philosophy on new gear is keep going on what I have until it is limiting me from something I want to do. But I also am a believer in buying things that I can grow into, so I will not always take the least expensive path. Life is a balance of things, right?

    BF Hammer's 2023 Phantasic Photos

Not a cloud in the sky on April 6 when I returned home from work. I had been thinking about photographing the sun again lately. Unfortunately not much in the way of sunspots to feature.

    Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 - Which CPL filter?

You spend for better with circ polarizers. Since it is 2 separate elements with one that rotates, light reflection on the different surfaces is an issue. The extra cost that helps goes into anti-glare coatings.

    Focus shifting (landscape)

I wonder if Blackstar is missing the point of this? CamRanger is controlling the camera and doing all the work of moving the focal plane and taking the photos I presume. Not trying to manually move the focus ring by hand in a series of steps. Sometimes people forget you can connect that USB...

    Focus shifting (landscape)

It should be simple to test. On tripod, shoot 2 photos. Minimum focal distance and infinity. If it looks like you zoomed the lens between the photos, there is a focus breathing issue. It is a common thing, kind of matter of how much zooming you get between the extremes.

    Focus shifting (landscape)

I have not checked my Sigma for focus breathing. As in the focal length changing as you move the focal distance. It could play into your project. I have had some zoom lenses that were very bad in this regard. The Tamron 18-270mm would only reach 270mm at infinity focus, and looked more like...

    Kodachrome turns 50

I was listening to the song on the radio at 6 years old. But it would be about 3 more years before I had my own Zenith AM transistor radio.

    D850 off-road motorbike durability

I would buy used and inexpensive. Even then you will need to keep in a well sealed case for the dirt. The weather seals on a D850 are about rain, not dust. ps: April fool?

    Got a Z5 last week

Welcome aboard! If you are truly that new, you have a solid starting kit. I would guess you would want some zoom lenses in time, but just trying things out with the 50mm and learning what interests you is a help for what focal length lenses you would want in time. Z5+50mm is not a bad way to go...

And sometimes the bear eats you

I certainly know the feeling of a photo that does not meet my expectations. But those are both wonderful photos. Only you know how you imagined this to work out. Rest of us just see the result. ;)

    Vietnam Veterans Day 2023

We are technically still at war with North Korea. We have just been in an extended 70 year cease-fire agreement (that has had skirmishes here and there).

    Z9 Monitor Stopped Working

I first read this after the solution, but was about to ask if the viewfinder was still displaying everything. Menus, photo review, basically anything shown on the rear screen also will display in the viewfinder. It would be enough to get that anniversary job done. Then I was going to remind...

    Extra Lenses

@Clovishound He is using a D50, which has to be getting near 20 years old now. Low resolution crop-sensor body. A 28mm lens would be full-frame 42mm equivalent. Not that wide at all. Later model 18-55mm lenses with vibration-reduction would be my route to go. Sharpness to spare for that older...

    Tamron 150-600 G2 Decision Time

I understand the Tamron G2 version is much more respected than the G1. I personally have the Sigma 150-600mm C and never have had any regrets over it.

    Is USB Dock a must for Sigma 150-600C + FTZ + z6ii?

But your Z6 does not have an optical viewfinder like that note is referencing. And the lens would have had to be warehoused for over 2 years to not have 2019 firmware anyhow. Seem to remember many shortages of import items back at that time.
