    Post your latest purchases.

Well I should not have, but I had a 10% discount code to use. A used micro Z 105mm f/2.8 showed up at KEH available. It was 1 of 2 Z-mount lenses on my list to get next when I thought I could afford it. I really want a Z 14-24mm f/2.8 more but it would be insane for me to drop $2K on a purchase...

    BF Hammer's 2023 Phantasic Photos

Another quick lunchtime session. This time at Horicon Marsh wildlife refuge visitor center. Said hi to the purple martins. Wildflowers were shot using 15mm Zeiss Distagon lens and birds with Sigma 150-600mm C lens.

"Playback is not currently available" and live view not working

And 1 more thought. Try pushing the shutter release button. On at least 5 times when I have been out at night in the cold doing astrophotography I had the battery die as I was taking a long-exposure. With both my D7000 and D750 the mirror and shutter would stay up and a F000 error comes up...

"Playback is not currently available" and live view not working

AbbyTech, the original post author was describing what is apparently the camera having a function activated that disables the LiveView. Try rotating the function mode dial to M or maybe on AUTO. If the camera allows you to enter the setup menu, start looking for the reset to factory defaults...

d3300 get out of sports mode to manual mode

Information here is lacking. So I have to guess and make assumptions as to your intentions. I think you are asking how to use manual mode for shooting beach volleyball outdoors instead of using the auto mode. Rotate mode dial to "M". Set ISO to 100 as a base and activate auto-ISO to help here...

Let's be careful out there folks

Wow, I just don't have enough rattlesnakes in my neighborhood to even bother to think much. I do consider them in the rocky terrain of the Wisconsin driftless area which is where they mostly live here. Do you suppose it could have been a baby snake? Small fangs and not able to deliver much venom?

Wear sunglasses when taking photo shots

I am in a similar boat. I had to stop wearing contact lenses when I started to need different power for close-up. Bifocal contacts just did not work out for me with constant eye strain. So I finally went back to glasses for first time since my late teens. I decided at the time to go with 2...

AI PP is Great and Stinks

It is my preference and goal to not over-process photos in post. And it can be very easy to get carried away. Instead of "perfect" I instead look to achieve balance with what is natural. That appears to put me outside the norm with what is in fashion now, but it's my art so my choice.

    Dead pixels

BTW, dust does not have to be black in your images, but the basic green, red, and blue specks are a bit more likely to be damaged pixels. I would have gone to a wet cleaning of the sensor with the sensor cleaner fluid on one of those wide sensor swabs. Then tried the pixel mapping menu item. It...

    Dead pixels

I bet your D3400 has a menu option to lock-up the mirror and shutter for sensor cleaning. You won't find that available on the Z5 no matter how hard you search for it. I won't say how I know that, don't bother asking! ;)

Nikon View may be old but until now it has been great.

I get that. In my case I primarily use NX Studio as the means to import files and sometimes organize files. 85% of my workflow happens in RawTherapee following that. But prior to that it was Nikon View, and Picasa2 before that. I still miss Picasa sometimes but it went orphan over 10 years ago.

Nikon View may be old but until now it has been great.

NX Studio is the software getting update support now. It really looks and feels similar to Nikon View but has more integrated features. Now I don't know if you are running old PC hardware but you imply it may be at least 5 years old. Is that factoring in to your resistance to updating? I am...

New Z8 is 3 Days Away

I will live vicariously through you Danno. I would love to have a Z8, but affording one is not in the cards for me for a long time.

Need a backup battery for my Z5

EN-EL15C is a pretty universal battery among the higher-end bodies. Even the new Z8 uses it. I have so many of the older A type from my D7000, D600, D750. The older ones work in the Z5, just the power doesn't last as long. I would buy a 2nd C version if I did not already have 3 of the older...

Need a backup battery for my Z5

Nikon already is keeping the Z-mount interface data to themselves except to manufacturers that won't make the same types of lenses as Nikon. And check the history of Nikon and flash units. They have not introduced a new model in a looooong time. Nikon is already passing that business off to the...

Need a backup battery for my Z5

No on the aftermarket battery. I have 3 of those that work perfectly well in my D750 and D600. The Z5 rejects them with a message to load a real Nikon EN-EL15. The Z bodies seem to have the this battery detection at ultra-sensitive. I read a Z8 review yesterday that also complained about the 3rd...

Fx camera on Dx mode to shoot wild life?

Yes and yes. End effect is discarding the image around the DX-size sensor area. Just as if you had cropped it smaller in post. The pixel size of your subject remains the same (xxx pixels by yyy pixels). But if you were to use a D500 that may have the pixels packed tighter-together on the APS-C...
