    Vixens Jewellery

Ironwood said it. Get a tripod. For this sort of thing a small tripod would be fine. How are you lighting these up. It's all about the lighting. Google up "photography light box" many DIY versions and you can buy cheap off of eBay if you don't want to bother making one. The...

    Post your Birds in Flight

Quick shot of a crow flying overhead. Didn't notice until I was processing the image that it was carrying some building materials back to the nest. Insert is from a different image of the same bird - caught a few as I was on burst mode. Don't think the EXIF shows: D610 - Nikkor 200-500mm

Getting started on a new gazebo. It is just laid out roughly to get an idea of where it will go. And there is a new Dewalt mitre saw stand to make the work go a little easier. Of course it is photography related as I will be able to sit in the shade and wait for birds to come into my line...

Platypod - Beanbag Pod - Mini Tripod anyone use one

Facebook thought I needed to know about this gadget and has 'pushed' it to me several times. I use the 'boost' feature of Facebook for our Children's Centre it works for us but it can be annoying when vendors use it repeatedly to push the same thing out to me. A case of I can give it but don't...

I feel like I hit the Jackpot. Not one, not two, not even three, but four Gold Boxes came home today. Found this package on a local used goods on-line trading post and for $1,000 I snapped it up. Apparently the wife had put it up on line for a lot less than her husband thought it was worth...

ND Filters - too many choices

I'm thinking I "need" a ND filter of some sort. Thought of the Cokin "P" series. Somewhere around $100 for an ND Kit + rings for each diameter I want to use. (Hear you can buy a cheap kit just for the full set of rings and they work fine??) But looks kinda bulky. On the other hand lots of...

    new lens

sample shot - church basement - poor light - face under a baseball cap - still got it. This is one of my wife's 'auto-everything' shots - only setting was 'no flash'.

    Post your flower pics

I'd not recommend the Nikkor 200-500mm for a floral photo-walk, one uses what ones has. I came equipped to go birding and we went into the Muttart Conservatory Glass Pyramids in Edmonton. These are some of my shots with a 200-500mm 'close up' as in 10-25 feet from the subjects.

Nikon 200-500/5.6 VR Lens....... post your photos!

Talk about a miss-match. I thought we were going into a butterfly display, and I thought the butterflies may be fluttering up in the trees and a fair distance away. Even though the promotion read: "This exhibit will be packed with extravagant hydrangeas, baby’s breath and cineraria as well as...

    Post your Photographing the photographer.

My dearly beloved on our photo-walk through Edmonton Muttart Conservatory. I'm happy she is taking a keener interest in 'our' hobby. Now to get her out of auto-everything mode. She had the new-to-us SB-400 on the D5100 and she liked it. And she used the zoom - she previously would ask for...

Nikon 200-500/5.6 VR Lens....... post your photos!

The last of these three is almost the whole image (I just straightened the horizon). I'm amazed at how sharp the image is when it is cropped so much. The first two images are very small parts of the whole image.

Almost missed this shorebird, well camouflaged. I think he's some sort of sandpiper but not sure.

Got a chance to go to the tradeshow portion of the Imaging Conference in Calgary. Maybe someday I'll take in the whole conference. But I did come home with a new tripod. A Vanguard Alta Pro 253CT. It is carbon fibre and has rotating centre column. Won the 2009 TIPA Award - a little old but...

    Inexpensive Gimbal Head

Well my inexpensive gimbal arrived in the post today Paid 90$ CDN (about $70ish US$), the box was marked $179 so it was seriously discounted. It is a ballhead adapter "sidekick" style version. This one is not curved like the Induro and Wimberley version instead it is straight up. That has...
