After spending a lot of time reading reviews and watching YouTubes finally decided on the Jobu Micro Gimbal Ballhead Adaptor for my new 200-500 long lens. Regular price on the box $179, picked it up on sale for $90. Which posed a problem as free shipping did not apply under $99 so added a...

Just some sparrows shot through my kitchen window. I think this hobby is going to cost me - I need a bigger bay window to get better shots. Anyone else renovating their house to accommodate this hobby?

WEEK 15 Artistic: Metal Cold, hard steel. Shiny Aluminum. Or even rusted and broken down. Find your inspiration in metal this week. Had some fun with this one, artsy metal - hmmm, a pile of coins, a rusted old truck? Metal bridge, ... lots of options. Decided I would just screw around with...

"WEEK 14 Landscape: Zoomed in Most landscapes are wide sweeping images. Try an alternative and zoom in instead." Had to think on this one as a zoomed in landscape seemed like a contradiction in terms but gave it a go.

    Post your Birds in Flight

Re: Bird in Flight Took some time for target practice. Crows and Seagulls are not hard to find and provide an opportunity to practice my BIF skills - and given the number of hits vs misses in my outing today, I need a lot more practice.

Re: Bird in Flight Just taking off - but in flight nevertheless - didn't get any good ones of the Waxwing after this one.

They may be called common, but these Common Redpolls are not common in these parts - I can't say I've ever seen them before - or at least I never noticed them before. They are a northern bird and even burrow into the snow. .

Nikon 200-500/5.6 VR Lens....... post your photos!

Really liking this lens I have yet to mount it onto the monopod for my walk abouts but I think maybe I will after today, good for a quick walk but it is a heavy lens. I was focused on a bird waiting for it to take flight, trying to keep the focus on the bird, ... but even holding it up for a...

Back Button Focus - Use and Settings ?

Another day and another backyard birding walk about the neighbourhood, working on my BBF technique. Found it useful if there was a bird in the bush (which is not worth as much as a bird in hand but how often do you get a bird in hand?). In the bush the focus would jump from one branch to...

WEEK 13 Portrait: High Key Expose to the right and create a light, airy high key portrait. White Pup in the Snow Had a go at this artsy kinda image - hmmmm, not sure it would be my style but it was fun to do something I never did before.

Just some crows - if it is flying I'm shooting - not very good a this BIF thing but I'm trying, need a lot more practice.

Back Button Focus - Use and Settings ?

I've read this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was finding it challenging to switch from AF-S to AF-C while shooting birds. They would sit pretty on a branch and I'd want AF-Single point, then they would fly away and I'd need to go to AF-C in a flash - never got there fast...

The Waxwings are back - first time I've seen them this spring. Feasting on some berries that clung to our tree through the winter.

Well not nearly as exciting or as much fun as my recent lens acquisitions - and not "new" but new-to-me. Stopped in at the used camera store in Edmonton (Classic Camera Exchange) where the elderly gentleman who I presume to be the owner is always there for some good old school conversation...

Just some common sparrows (i think that's what these are) shot out in the alley behind my house - glad all my neighbours like to put up these birdie-condo's they seem to like them. Unintentionally got me a BIF in one of these shots. This is one of my first walk abouts with my new Nikkor long...
