I'm afraid I may have already given in. Nikon 105mm micro Z

I think your angst about buying will fade away after you finally start shooting with the lens. No more extension tubes or FTZ adapter to fool with either.

    Post your sunset shots

You can easily capture sunspots at 600mm, but I'm not convinced you got them there without using a solar filter. It could be birds flying between you and the sun. Distant aircraft also. There is enough image compression to make the spots square so no positive ID possible.

NEWBIE... Camera lense wich one and why

My biggest advice would have to be learn with what you have and be prepared to ditch everything someday down the road for the upgrade. As you learn you will naturally also figure out what you want to have later to make your style of photography better. This kind of gets difficult to say DSLR is...

NEWBIE... Camera lense wich one and why

Quick answer: No. Reason: You already have that zoom range covered. The 18-55mm might be a little bit nicer on optical quality, but not really enough to justify buying it and having as a 2nd lens. Me, I would consider getting a used 35mm f/1.8G lens to use in indoor family or event situations...

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

I added local contrast, increased overall contrast, raised black level, added sharpness, lightly reduced noise, and increased exposure a little after all that. The noise reduction really wanted to erase detail so it was just enough to blend a bit.

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

I also want to say you have a good focus here. There is detail in the craters. You could use some help in the post-processing. I took the liberty of working over your JPG, and if I was working directly with a Raw image it could be even sharper.

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

I could show-off here using a lens not currently available to you and say it's easy, just yadda yadda yadda. But I'll instead show what is possible using lesser gear. Last year I thought I would try out my infrared converted D600 (16MP sensor) with a very old 500mm Nikon reflex lens. Late...

    For a certain contest.

I did not bother showing the final draft, but I did submit the photo over 2 weeks ago. I mostly cropped in a bit tighter and fixed the stacking blend better. This is the final week for entries and the winner notified on the 20th.

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

Zoomed in to 300mm, the earth is rotating pretty fast, plenty fast enough to to blur the moon. Consider 1/500 or 1/800 to be the shutter speed to use. F/8 would be fine for the aperture, so use the ISO to dial in exposure if you can't move the f-stop lower. Clovis touches on it, but being...

Post your Moon and Star shots

There are many more moon threads in Night and Low Light sub-forum.

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

Hard stop or no stop, it should not really make a difference in dialing in to infinity focus. I cannot determine which version 70-300mm AF-P you have. There are 3 different versions listed at imaging-resource.com. I used to have one, it was a full-frame version. I was not impressed with it's...

Is it feasible to use FX 70-200 2.8 VR with FTZ & FX Telecoverter

I think the original question is will a 2x F-mount teleconverter function with the FTZ adapter and a 70-200MM VR II lens? I don't have the gear to test. The closest I can get is 70-200mm f/2.8G VR (next gen older) and an old "dumb" 2x telecoverter without the electrical contacts that I...

    Lens compatibility.

When I first bought my D750, I still kept my DX format D7000 as a 2nd body. I experimented with my Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 (DX) on the D750. That was a case where a great DX lens became a very poor lens used on a FX body. When I later traded away the D7000 I sent every last DX lens I had with it...

    Photo hosting

For sharing photos on forums, I use Imgur. Easy to link to photos there, but not as easy to build albums and organize. Mostly it is used by others for making and hosting memes and stuff like that. I mostly keep my photo posts set to "Private" and link individual photos, but I have set a few...

    Dim EVF on Z5

I've noticed that with Clovishound's recent posts. I think the option to save Exif on his final save may have been changed.

    Free Nikon Raw Editing Software

I use Capture NX-D to import my photos and organize where they are stored. Beyond that I do most of my image image editing with RawTherapee (free, open-source app) and GIMP (free, open-source) for any operation that would require creating layers. I'm all about using free or open-source software...

I'm afraid I may have already given in. Nikon 105mm micro Z

Clovis, while you have a couple of days left to resist... Z MC105mm f/2.8 by itself And here I added both of the Meilke Z extension tubes on the MC105mm for the Susan B Anthony dollar. At about the minimum focus distance here. No crop, full image.

    Repair, or replace it?

My favorite answer to that is "How good are you with 3D CAD design?" Personally I suck at that. Spend 20 hours drawing the part and overnight printing it. Is that really practical for most things?

    Struggling to understand Picture Controls

Chopperaddict, Nikon has a web page to help explain Picture Controls. https://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/tips-and-techniques/picture-controls-step-by-step.html I am over-simplifying things by saying it is a way to select different color profiles that are applied to the photos. It...
