I'm afraid I may have already given in. Nikon 105mm micro Z

Clovis, I recently bought a 105mm Z-mount used from KEH. They don't show up often, but they appear from time to time, That said, the $100 discount on the new lenses makes it only $50-$70 or so above the going rate for a good condition used. Don't feel too bad about jumping on the sale while it...

    Settling for some extension tubes.

If I can make time while working in the neighborhood, my camera shop has that set of extension tubes listed on their used equipment for sale. $29 instead of $39 new. I don't think I'll make a dedicated trip to save $10 though. Edit: 3 days later, a slow day at work, and a side trip to the...

    Portraits in the dark

I never had Godox speedlights, but when I had a D7000 I used Nikon SB-600 and SB-400 speedlights. The SB-600 had it's own AF assist light that projected red lines on a subject and it worked quite well. The SB-400 would use the camera body AF assist illuminator which is a white LED. That worked...

    Intentional Camera Movement

I can hear the trumpets sound, a Batman logo is just about to come at us center screen, and that leads into Da-da da-da da-da da-da da-da.....

F-mount lenses on an FTZ adapter

As already brought up the 70-300mm lens is not a macro lens by any measure. I would not even recommend using extension tubes with it on a Z-mount camera simply due to the fact you would be doing a double-adapter stack. It might work, but you double the amount of possible ways it could fail...

That's a very nice snail you got.

F-mount lenses on an FTZ adapter

Z5 is FX size sensor so it will use a full-frame FX F-mount lens in FX mode. But there are limitations as to which lenses will work with the FTZ adapter so knowing which lens you are looking at is also important. For instance I have a Tamron 90mm macro lens that worked great with my D750 and...

    For a certain contest.

I will take the silence as meaning there is nothing to complain about. ;) Second draft. My final vision is becoming clearer. This time I layer-stacked 100 photos of the sun to bring out more surface detail. Using a different cloudy sky photo for background and foreground. These are the same...

    For a certain contest.

This image is only a proof-of-concept at this stage. I'm hoping to get pictures of the sun on another day with even more active sunspots. My idea here was to just do a sky replacement. Sun shot with a dark solar filter. And I did this manually with a photo I took of the sky at the same 600mm...

    Settling for some extension tubes.

I have some aftermarket AF-enabled F-mount extension tubes I have used over the years. They get the job done, but I don't trust the plastic lens mounts like you would a metal mount. Handle with care. Saw in the used list at my local camera shop that they had some used Z-mount extension tubes...

Astrophotographers: A contest with a very unique prize.

Yeah, they are pretty clear about wanting to freely use the image. Flip side is it is 1 photo only. And the up side is trading that for a book and autograph of Brian Freakin' May! If you win that is.

Astrophotographers: A contest with a very unique prize.

https://www.space.com/brian-may-launches-astrophotography-competition The subject is Solar System objects on this. We are in prime season for photographing Saturn and near prime for Jupiter. So I think somebody with a very nice Newtonian or other reflector telescope is going to walk away with...

    Technical Service Advisories Z8

Early adopters beware. Actually that strap eyelet deal is frightening because Nikon has basically been using that setup on most camera bodies for years. One would think they had it figured out properly by this time. Seems they cut one corner too many to make the Z8 more affordable than the...

Post your favorite July 2023 shot

Was photographing regularly in July, until I caught a case of COVID right as we changed to August. Almost recovered now. This was a VFW post from July 24th. Z5, FTZ adapter + Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G

    Photography Magazines

My high school library had Popular Photography in the racks during the early 1980s. I read those whenever I saw a new issue. I actually remember seeing low-res digital images submitted in the reader's gallery. I have to suppose those were home-made digital cameras then.

    Photography Magazines

I used to habitually buy various computer magazines. And I would pick up Outdoor Photographer at the supermarket when I saw it. But I noticed about 12 years ago I was buying the magazine, then barely looking at them later. I stopped with all periodicals unfortunately. That is what blogs and...

    Secretary

Just some generic thoughts here. I have CD's full of software from the 1995-2005 era that are mostly unusable now because Windows won't run them now unless you experiment with emulation. I have several devices that interfaced to computers then, but today the required device drivers have not been...

Live mode switch not working on Nikon D 5100.

Simple answer is that it needs repair. If the screen stops working flush to back but works when extended away from back, I would conclude the connecting cable has broken and must be replaced.
