    Bracketing question

I think of bracketing as fail-safe for certain situations with varying light conditions. Think like the eclipse last April. I bracketed all the shots because there was no do-over and time was far too limited. Each photo was a 5-shot burst with bracketing. But that leads to my issue with...

Trying to copy some old slides

You are getting there! Yes, use the soft-box and even place the lens directly on it pointing down. Should give uniform and consistent light that way so you could automate the post processing a bit. Color is looking a bit flat, but understand it could be accurate due to the nature of military...

Star tracker you use and/or recommend

If my current telescope mount were to take a bullet to save my life, I think I would look to the Star Adventurer GTi now. This version was introduced after I bought the AZ-GTi. The payload was bumped up by 1KG and they added the WiFi feature to make it a go-to mount now.

Trying to copy some old slides

I almost forgot I bookmarked this older product. Guy in the UK makes them. Less expensive but you have to supply your own light source. That is a bigger trick to keep the color temp uniform from batch to batch than most people would expect. https://clifforth.co.uk/#BUY

Trying to copy some old slides

I have been so close to buying one of these a couple of times this past year. I kind of want something I can do Kodak 110 and 620 film negatives on also. Those would be my childhood cameras and I still have a stack of negatives around. https://www.valoi.co/easy35

Star tracker you use and/or recommend

I use a Sky-Watcher AZ-GTi. There has been a newer generation available for the past couple of years now. I bought mine nearly 5 years ago. The AZ-GTi specifically is the wrong kind of telescope mount to use for astrophotography. As designed, it works as an Alt-Az mount for a telescope and does...

Post your favorite August 2024 shot

Lake Geneva, WI on the 1st day of the month. D600 IR conversion, 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5, A-mode f/10. 8 images shot portrait mode. Stitched with Hugin.

should I buy a DF just because I want one?

Honestly, I used P mode mostly with my D80 for about 3 years. I figured if the auto exposure worked, why force things? I eventually evolved to A and S modes, but full manual is only if they won't do the job I ask.

should I buy a DF just because I want one?

That is half the going prices of 3 years ago. The supply continues to lag behind demand, but I think the Zf is changing that.

    Nikon AF Nikkor 24-120mm 3.5-5.6D

It will take photos with a FTZ adapter. But it has no autofocus motor so you would have to manual focus everything. That is going to be the case with any D series lens. They rely on an autofocus motor inside a camera body. I have once read about a Chinese brand making an adapter with an AF...

should I buy a DF just because I want one?

About your daughter relying on P-mode: I do not see switching to tactile dials as a way to change that. It is the fact that the Auto and P-mode exists that it is used. A DF still has those. I only see the Df as a secondary body to use. The feature set is a serious downgrade from a D750 or D780...

    Question on a lens

Summing things up, only you would be able to answer that question. Here's a link to the review at a lens review site I regularly use. https://www.imaging-resource.com/lenses/nikon/18-300mm-f3.5-5.6g-ed-vr-dx-af-s-nikkor/review/ I have not used the lens, no personal experience. But the link...

    Landscape Panoramas

Appears the forum had to compress the file a lot. It is much sharper on my PC. I could share from imgur but that site compresses also. Link to the clearer image shared on Google photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/d4EUwzcpGjHEht4GA Lake Geneva in Wisconsin is obviously named after the more...

    Landscape Panoramas

From the same Aug 1 photoshoot, this is a pano series I shot angled upward a bit and and also stitched from 15 exposures. This one was assembled by AutoStitch which I think is doing a nicer job with the blending. I desaturated the original infrared images to B/W before stitching. Lake Geneva...

    Astrophotography

There is a small chance of aurora also. The geomagnetic storm forecasted has not really happened but there was activity in Canada Saturday night-early Sunday. Edit: my phone app (AuroraReach) is showing KP is up to 5 now as the sun begins to set in Wisconsin. Medium chance for Aurora. Fair...

    Affinity Kicking Adobe

Don't anybody take my following comments as some kind of personal criticism. I am just making observations of multiple people's stories. I consider the post-processing software to be a tool. A means to execute a task. It's pretty well true to consider the Adobe suite to be the most premium...

    Fx and Dx lens conversions

I have looked at the Photodiox website. There is not any F-mount adapter that looks like that. Photos appear to be some adapter for a different camera. You don't show the part that goes into a camera body well, but it clearly does not have enough depth to be F-mount. Long story short, this item...

    Fx and Dx lens conversions

@sen-la Please go back to the beginning to state what you are trying to do. FX means full-frame and DX means cropped-sensor, but they both go on exactly the same Nikon F-mount. I cannot understand a need for an adapter.
