    D3100 vibration

Isn't the T-adapter required to mount on a telescope? So you list a combination of things that are going to each introduce motion blurs. I did not even mention possibility of the lenses in the telescope fogging either. I would have a hard time advising past that without observing what you're...

Z8 playback and all rear buttons become unusable unit battery is reseated

Perhaps reload the firmware on a freshly-charged battery. At least take that point away from Nikon customer support as it usually is an early thing any manufacturer will try to use as an excuse.

    D3100 vibration

Multiple things to watch for here. Keep in mind I only know what you reveal in the original post about what you do. Tripod under the telescope could be inadequate. Star tracker might be overloaded or must be balanced better with the counterweight kit. Polar alignment not quite right. You could...

D3300 / TT685II-N settings for bar / club etc photos?

I tend to use auto mode in that kind of environment. I encourage you to do some practice with direct flash and bounced flash. Direct flash has a tendency to make background go dark as the light does not bounce back to the camera as quickly as the light from the main subject does. Bounced light...

High native ISO and UV/IR sensitivity mirrorless camera? Graphene CMOS or QIS sensors any time soon?

My first stop for lens reviews. When they do a hands-on review it includes standardized lab tests applied to all reviews. https://www.imaging-resource.com/lenses/nikon/reviews/

High native ISO and UV/IR sensitivity mirrorless camera? Graphene CMOS or QIS sensors any time soon?

Most Z lenses consistently test sharper in lab for reviews.

High native ISO and UV/IR sensitivity mirrorless camera? Graphene CMOS or QIS sensors any time soon?

Why are you even considering a meager 20MP sensor for this job if pixel-shifting is something you require for higher resolution? 45MP or larger sensors are there to have and don't depend on pixel-shifting at all. If it is a cost issue, you are naming off some very expensive technology and could...

I inherited some film-era Nikon stuff.

Small update. A week ago I decided to get on the project to shoot the 2 rolls of expired B/W film that was found with the gear. The film door on the N70 broke. It's a common problem and many cameras are out there now without a film door, or have a broken one. There is a bespoke repair kit for...

High School photography class in 1982

I was looking over some scans of negatives I started 18 years ago. I still have all of my high school photography class projects from 1982. Now I am not really proud of any of it. I pretty much was slapped down by my teacher who did not really like my work. Forty years later, yeah it was mostly...

Aurora alert for tonight (late 9-12-2024 to early 9-13-2024)

The indicators are pretty good for aurora tonight. They are already getting photos in Europe and sharing on my aurora app. Odds are with the moon out tonight also you would not see anything with your bare eyes (until the moon sets anyhow). You can use night mode on a cellphone to confirm if...

    Post your latest purchases.

I can confirm Nikon is exactly so petty as to lock out 3rd party batteries in Z series cameras. But it is a matter of how well the battery maker reverse-engineers the logic in the cell. I have 3 high-cap aftermarket EN-EL15 that work perfectly on my 2 F-mount bodies but my Z5 puts up the warning...

Built-in autofocus motor Vs Auto focus lens

D7100 has a manual/auto focus switch on side of lens mount just below the lens release button. Set to auto. This must be in auto even if there is another switch on the lens itself. And that would have to be on auto also. But only newer lenses with their own AF motor will have that switch.

    Post Your Birds (3)

Dummy the Woodpecker has come back to me this year. I have to do something about the gap in the tops of my porch windows. Of course I made him pose for photos before I opened the door and shooed him outside.

Dumb Jokes Posted Here.... if you dare.

The Pope was in town and the bishop and a priest took him to their favorite fishing spot. The 3 got in a small boat and rowed it to the middle of the lake. Right after dropping the anchor the priest cries out "Dear God, I left my tackle box behind!" He lept out of the boat, dashed across the...

Long exposure images fading to black over time...

I should elaborate on my issues with the SNAP port. I believe Skywatcher just had in mind to get it to fire Canon DSLRs and assumed it would be fine with others. For the 60 second exposure time the circuit has to hold a switch (or more likely a transistor) closed for 60 seconds. If it is...

You raise a point I forgot. His lens may have fogged up. It kind of fits the circumstances. I use a USB-powered lens-wrap anti-dew heater for those early morning sessions. Again, a cheap item to buy off Amazon...

I do not think your D7000 is to blame. Until 5 years ago I was using a D7000 and Sigma 150-600mm lens for my astro work. I do not have a Star Adventurer 2i. I use Skywatcher's AZ-GTi and that uses the SynScan app to control it. Is that used with the Star Adventurer 2? I don't actually know. But...

Suggested flash? (that supports four-pin Nikon hot shoe protocol)

If you would be open to used gear, Nikon SB-600 speedlights regularly are priced $60-$80 these days at camera stores that take trade-ins. I had to pay $260 for mine when it was new. SB-800's are out there also but get priced twice as much. If you only are wanting a single speed light in the...
