    Pretzel's learning curve...

At the aforementioned family gathering, I spent some time taking pictures of random things until people would quit paying attention to me again, as my goal was candid snapshots. ;) Came out with a few to play with, with perhaps a couple a bit on the macabre side of things?

In fact... here's a quick (I'm tired after a long day of work) crop, but to me, it seems to lose a bit of the character. What do you guys think? Too bad I didn't have the freedom to just control the whole environment and tell the youngster to go play his game in the background. ;)

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Here's a couple of candid shots from a recent family get together... the 1st was a nice clear snapshot that I feel shows the personality of the folks involved and obviously edited for a "colder" color scheme (I'll go back later and try to crop out the bored kid in the background), the second...

    May 28 - June 28th Assignment = Still-life Flower(s) in Black and White

3rd and final entry... I seem to have a fixation on the in-close details lately. :) I'll probably throw the full color originals up in the flower thread or on my 365 (more like a 127) thread soon too.

    May 28 - June 28th Assignment = Still-life Flower(s) in Black and White

2nd entry... trying to put all the focus on the details in the center. Edited with a red filtered B&W.

    May 28 - June 28th Assignment = Still-life Flower(s) in Black and White

Can a rookie enter? Nothing that comes close to comparing to the rest, but might as well put some shots in, right? Entry 1 I caught this lovely bloom with the sunlight coming down from just above and behind and thought it would make a nice B&W.

Yes, that's a 25+ year old banged up practice guitar. Add in a late night and a bored photographer and you get this... More tomorrow.

Then a couple of almost identical shots (freehand instead of tripod, or could have gotten them closer, obviously) playing with just a slightly different point of focus.

Here's one from around the edges of the yard... The center of it looks amazing zoomed to full.

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Had some fun opportunities to nab some critters in the front yard, but the day was overcast and I was dodging spring showers. Thinking a little higher ISO so I could get the aperture a little tighter for a bit more depth of field would have helped on a couple. Ahh well, that's why this thread...

My Denver Daisy is all grown up now, and raising youngsters of her own... *sniffle*

    Pretzel's learning curve...

I've walked up and down the streets of our downtown area, off and on, my entire life. The same old buildings, full of dignity and history, yet after all that time, looking up reveals yet another new discovery. Sad that I've never spotted these fellows before, or glorious because every day brings...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Nabbed a pic of some wheat (fun in and of itself), then found the beauty of an "artful" crop and zoom. Then delved into different colors and looks. It's amazing how a person's whole perception can change with just a slight change of view?

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Or how about a pic that I actually found worthy of putting my watermark on? I was downtown, grabbing random shots of interest and trying to figure out how to "creatively" practice shutter speed without just grabbing passing cars, etc. It was THEN I saw a section of streets blocked off, walked...

To start with, how about no real composition needed, just a nice bit of young bamboo in the sunlight? I actually set this as my computer desktop. LOVE IT! Then follow it up with a wee little beast that probably enjoys his work!

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Picked up my official Nikon shutter release cable this evening, so of course I had to get the tripod out and give it a try. Our flowerbed is in full shade by the time I get home, and the Oklahoma "breeze" was stirring the blooms a bit, so setting a wide open aperture was getting shutter speeds...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

The class tonight was focused on playing with shutter speed, so we hopped out and messed around with a reverse version of "drive-by" shooting... The first is at 1/15th shutter speed (kinda looks all jacked up on Mt. Dew), the 2nd is 1/500th shutter speed (he almost looks parked while he enjoys...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Here's a couple of shots from around a small local lake... 1st, a couple of plain ol' "grass" with the lake and shoreline blurred in from behind... I enjoyed the color contrast of the background, especially on the 2nd shot. Then, a couple of "running water" attempts. It seems VERY hard...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

I'm getting a little better at snapping close ups, getting the shutter speed, etc. down... 1) Make a wish! 2) My Denver Daisy is about to bust out a BEAUTIFUL bloom! You can actually see the colors hiding inside there!
