    Pretzel's learning curve...

This was, by far, one of my favorite shots from my Florida trip. It was my first real attempt at capturing a candid street portrait. Here it is in B&W and a color edit (which I tend to prefer), both with a little bit of vignette edited in. Comments and/or criticism? This was one I shot...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

It's about time I posted one of my "more favored" gull shots. Plus an extra photo which happens to be one of the more in-focus shots I got of tonight's waxing crescent moon. I had a bit of a scare, as Picasa decided to quit handling my RAW files nicely, so actually took quite a few shots...

    Shooting RAW and image noise

The sunrise and photos that day started in ISO 1600, which I've never had issue with noise before (shooting JPG fine, that is). The photos tonight I messed around with ISO 800, 400 and 200 all while shooting the moon. I was simply befuddled by the sheer amount of noise and trying to figure out...

    Shooting RAW and image noise

So toward the end of my vacation, and in attempting to take pics of the new (maybe waning) moon tonight, I messed with shooting in a RAW format. Many of my sunrise pictures, and even full daylight fast shutter speed shots, had a lot more "grain" and image noise to them. I had set the ISO up a...

The one I captured above would actually bob his head and tail and flash it at me whenever I would make him scurry a few inches by getting too close, so I was able to make him pose for the shot! :D A couple of others (Stubby, also from above, as a prime example) would flash them at each other...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Switching from birds, I caught a few of the smaller lizards that like to play around in the back yard. The first is showing off his mad camo skills. This little guy was actually hanging tail up on the screen, but I got close then did a little pic rotation. ;) This one actually earned the...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Here's another gull shot I found interesting, just because of the backlit wing structure. She was hovering over some tasty treats, I bet! Then a pelican flew by as if to say his backlit wings were prettier! (and to scope out the same tasty treats the gull was watching, I'm sure) In fact...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

This "Crab Spider" (as they call it in Florida) is actually the Jeweled Spider, and before the webs were cleared from the back porch (yet again) and this wee little spider met an untimely demise, I transferred it to the patio for some close-ups before letting it run free for another day. ;)

How about some random "people on the beach" shots? Most didn't even notice. :) Here's about 1/2 of the folks I shot getting out at sunrise or just after.

Figured I'd follow up those blah sky pirate photos with something a little better, so here's a couple more gull photos I came across in my mass of captures.

    Pretzel's learning curve...

A couple of pics (from WAY below) of the Frigate Bird, or "sky pirate". The black one is the male and was hard to pick out details against a bright blue sky, being so far away. The female came out a little better with her white underbelly. I added a vignette effect to both just to break up...

Ok, a couple more teasers, nothing really worth bragging about, eh? Still working on photos and my trial for LR expired. :( Guess I gotta save up some dough after vacation and go ahead and make that purchase... WHEE! This one (along with a pic I'm saving that I captured of my son chasing...

Ok, here's a teaser. ;) One of the nice gulls in flight I managed to capture. There are more and better to come later...

    Post your flower pics

Here's a set of "triplets" I came across recently!

This little fellow was TINY, but he knew just where to hang out to find some tasty dinner... 1 farther away shot, one zoomed in a bit more. ;)

Back to some critter huntin' and macro shots now! The first one I call "Dangerous Dance", as that little spider on the left hopped from petal to petal trying to get a good angle on this oblivious little damsel. She didn't seem to notice, but rather just wandered all around this cone flower...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Ok, after all the disappointing attempts at the moon with my 18-55 kit lens, I finally got a chance to take a shot with my 70-300. It's still not as sharp as I would like... :( My cheap little tripod isn't built for a 6'4" dude OR extreme sky angles, and I was sweating out in the summer...

    Pretzel's learning curve...

Made the mistake at looking into some of these macro threads... now I want the 105mm Macro lens!! At the very least, I think I'll look into some of the Macro add-on lens kits. Until then, I used the 70-300 VR to zoom way in from about 6 feet away. ;) (then cropped, of course) Who knew flies...

Back to a couple of graffiti shots... This one was rather a cool thing I noticed while snapping the pic just above. Nature worked itself right into the beauty as if saying, "I still win."

There's nothing "phenomenal" about these pics, but rather just some fun. The 1st is a picture of the "Center of the Universe" right smack dab in the midst of downtown Tulsa, OK. It's an unintentional acoustical wonder, as when you stand right in the middle, the decorative bits of wall and...
